I started training for my first Spartan race in 2014 after my brother and I saw videos of the races on KZbin and decided to jump in. From 220 lbs as a 15-year-old who could barely run a mile and could never do a pull-up, I can proudly say by my first race in 2015 I dropped to 195 lbs and loved every minute of my first race. Since then I have gotten to participate in 2 Sprints, 1 Super, and 1 Beast and now I'm ready to tackle another Super the end of this year. Spartan racing has helped change my life for the best and none of it would have been possible without the Founders, Coordinators, and Elites who have paved the way before me. So from one Spartan to all the rest thank you for the encouragement, the challenges, and the community of amazing people. AROO Get out there and race the only one stopping you is you =)

My 16-year-old brother, Asa Winton, ran the Spartan Stadion in Dallas this year, and he placed 1st in his age-group. Not only that, he qualified for Nationals, so we're going to Lake Tahoe, California in September!!! I am so proud of him, and I can not tell you how inspiring Spartan Race and Joe De Sena is, not just to him, but to our entire family. If you're reading this, and you're discouraged about that faraway goal or that most recent loss, don't just sit there. Go do that thing; get to work!!! :D

After watching these videos almost all the time I run on the treadmill, I finally signed up, ran and finished this race. I crossed the finish line and wept. It was the proudest moment of my life. And everyone on that mountain (elites and open wave runners) are some of the best people ever.

I wish you good luck brotha, you got this. Expect it to suck physically and mentally because it will but find and remember your drive, your reason. It WILL make you cross that finish line. Dig deep and remember the WHY during the Beast. Also a Camel bag will help stay hydrated.

First beast for me in a month. I just can’t bring myself to train on running. First year period doing Spartan races doing the trifecta. My last super ended up being around 9.5 miles I never stopped running and was really surprised how good I felt when I finished. Only took me 1 hour longer than my first race the sprint.

Parents, nurses, police officers, firemen, teachers and many else are "better humans". They will never appear on KZbin but help build a better world. Running up a hill serves no-one. I do have great respect for the athletes. "Better humans" is just not the appropriate term
@wrenasa
@wrenasa 3 жыл бұрын
The term "Better Humans" isn't saying that these athletes are the best humans on the planet, it's referring to how good they are and how hard they push compared to a lot of other athletes. It's just a brand-name; it's not saying that they are better than other essential parts of our community. They aren't saying that they're better than anyone else as people.

@@wrenasa but that's trash too. How are they better athletes? Every sport has different requirements towards its athletes. I don't understand why Spartan racers take it as part of their personality to be tougher, harder training, better, smarter than anyone else out there. That's naive, disrespectful and stupid. To be the best, to try becoming the best or the be better than your earlier self in EVERY sport is hard. I don't understand these Spartans that think they are some kinda superior "sport race" just because someone shouts at them to do some push-ups and get dirty.
@wrenasa
@wrenasa 3 жыл бұрын
@@timoweinmann1311 They aren't being disrespectful at all, and I'm sorry you feel that way about them. I'm not sure how to explain them better, but trust me, when you get to know the sport, it's like nothing you've ever seen. It's not necessarily harder than some other sports... But it is VERY unique. That being said, I could debate about this all day, but the only way I believe that you can truly understand is to train like they do, run their races, and live their lifestyle. Then... and only then... would anyone understand what it really means to be a Spartan. ;)

I think the "Better humans" should be understood as "the best version of oneself", like what can I do to be a "Better Human" myself to do something good for myself and my surroundings? And overcoming obstacles, not specifically those in Spartan races but in life, is a starting point for many to become a better human. Like being more kind, doing something for the environment, being healthy so you don't end up in a hospital because of an heartattack or fatty liver etc. It's more the principle than the execution. You don't have to do Spartan races to be a better human, but you do have to overcome obstacles, of which the biggest one is yourself.

It's a little cringy when the athletes refer to themselves as the best climber or descender in the WORLD.Ever heard of Killian Jornet?Jim Walsmley?They would drop EVERYONE on any long climb or descent.They may not win in an OCR race but on climbs and descents it would be no contest.
