Wow. Here's a story for you guys: I saw Spawn in high school with Gorgasm & Severed. Went to Bloodletting down the street from me in Lakewood, Ohio. I even had a Bloodletting poster in my room all signed.

Matt Payne I did too in Palo Alto, CA at The Edge (rip). I was 15 years old. Pyamia was also there. I think it was 2005. I still have the tour sweatshirt. Glad I went. Only time SOP ever came to the US and it was with all original members.

Wait.... Deathcore?!? What even made you think SOP was anything remotely close to death core? I'm not trying to come off condescending either, I'm genuinely curious. SOP helped evolve death metal and almost pioneered "technical" death metal. Amongst the industry they are fucking legends and its sad how severely underrated these guys are which led to breakup. They deserved so much more exposure.

These dudes had very few influences. Honestly, that's probably why they stood out so much from the rest of their peers. Quite frankly, they admitted to not listening to much music as a whole. That being stated, they have gone on record saying that Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse were their initial inspiration during their formative years. The main songwriter for this band was Jonas Bryssling. He studied classical guitar and composition at a conservatory. The lead guitarist (in this video and first 2 albums), was Jonas Karlsson. He had some jazz-fusion training, but astonishingly doesn't know any theory, according to the drummer, Dennis Rondum. This band only released three full-length albums. On their final album, Incurso, they recruited Christian Muenzner to record the leads. He graduated from a German guitar/music institution in 2002 and has played in NUMEROUS tech death bands over the years. Additionally, during the recording of Incurso, Bryssling admitted to listening to only classical music, film scores, and thrash bands like Metallica and Anthrax.
