Ghast fireballs are designed to where if it hits the ghast who shot it, it does infinite damage. So no matter what you do, knocking the fireballs back, will always be more efficient than a bow, no matter how high or low their health is.

@@444knuffelmac in Minecraft, if a value is 999999 or higher, it immediately becomes infinite. Not sure why, but it does. Try it with potion effects duration. (/effect @s strength 1 999999 true)

@@RuralNanobot287 Thats actually not true, once a potion effect gets above 99 minutes and 99 seconds, it simply stops displaying the value, it will still end eventually. Also, if a value gets too high you have whats called an integer overflow, and it actually loops to the lowest possible value (Thats why some poorly developed games can accidentally have you have -2b coins after doing some an action! (It also goes the other way, and thats called an integer underflow!))

Notch makes it so that if someone hit the fireball back to the gas as long as it's a direct hit it will deal 1milion damage but it will only work on ghast

Mojang programed the fireball to do 1000 damage to only ghast to make sure it’s a 100% chance of achieving return to sender achievement

Jerome the reason that the ghasts when they hit each other they don't one hit each other but when a player hits them back its a one hit is because mojang wanted the fireball to one hit the ghast so when a player hits it back and it hits a ghast the ghast takes 1000 damage
