I see these comments on every video like this. It's a pretty stupid thought tbh. Very few consumers actually want to (or are able to) open up a Switch just to put a battery in. It seems easy to us, but for everyone else just seeing the internals and everything that can break is intimidating. It's like seeing a broken down car and saying "haha just needed a new catalytic converter, bet they're kicking themselves."

Thats why even broken systems getting higher prices on ebay. Everyone try or may think they can fix it. Over 15 years back at the time GBA was around you got very easy and cheap broken items, because noone want to fix them. It was that easy that you got 2 broken systems like a GBC, one with a display crack, but still makes sounds and a "not working" system with intact display. And here the joke: 5bucks each. A working GBC was worth 45-50bucks back then. So it was worth it, even if you bought 4 broken systems and 2 of them would stay dead. Today: a system is "broken" but still costs over a half of a working system. Not worth imo, even if you able to fix it. There's always a risk that you waste your money (and time) with a system that is maybe fixable but need spare parts that makes the fix more expensive. Last time i checked how much a PS Vita costs and ppl bid over 50 bucks on a not working system...

Switches definitely aren't as kid friendly as previous Nintendo consoles. They were always as prone to failure as any other piece of consumer electronics, but the Switch has more in common with an Android tablet than it does to any of their previous consoles and it really shows. Oh, and this was a great video, I like these tech wave things you do. I hope people don't think everyone will get this lucky but it does happen! Someone is just as likely to get a water damaged unit though and be out the money you put into it so just know what you're getting into.

Honestly its how I've got all my consoles, most recent being a PS4, came with the box and everything complete for £30, was listed as needing a disc drive so £15 on one of those later, plugged it in and it was good as new, you can get really good deals on stuff like this by just refreshing the "newly listed" page on ebay basically. System was stuck on the bootup screen and didnt come with the battery or back cover but I got it for $50 shipped so it was cheap. Bought a generic back cover and used original battery for less than $20 so total investment came out to less than $70. Fast forward a month and I couldnt get the system to go past the boot screen but as luck would have it the system was still under warranty. I just put the whole system back together with new thermal paste to make it seem like it wasn’t opened and sent it to Nintendo on the grounds that it was stuck on a boot-loop. Fast forward a week and I got my system back in the same condition as when I sent it but it was fixed! Turns on, plays games and everything! Might be worth a shot sending in one of these broken systems into Nintendo if the warranty is still active.

I still can't process how would someone have the Switch UI set to the light theme, that's ridiculous
@lordeilluminati5 жыл бұрын
The light theme is good for using the Switch (and any other device) outdoors using a LCD screen. People nowadays love to annoy developers for dark themes but they dont make much sense in interfaces which you have to use outdoors like a smartphone, they make sense if: a) it has a option to change the color scheme quickly or based on the time of the day; b) if the app is used mostly indoors like Netflix or c) it can save some battery on devices with AMOLED screens, which the Switch doesnt have. Using dark themes on direct sunlight and having to see extremely glowing white interfaces at night is awful.

i mean, yeah, the battery had alot of adhesive on it, but.. it Was easy to get to, and all you have to deal with is the adhesive. You dont have to take off other parts like the main board or anything like that just to get to it, so in that sense, the Switch battery is fairly easy to replace (easier than a phone battery for sure). The fact that all the parts are modular is a nice thing too. Nintendo, intentionally or not, made a easy to work on system.

you seem to be very lucky, i bet 90% of the times the switch will not work because of water damage.

I’m pretty sure you intentionally leave all those boxes slightly slanted to one side or another just to drive people crazy. Congrats. It works.

So I got my switch wet and it like murdered the screen but it still works in docked mode, is it an easy fix so I can play it in handheld again?

Chuck Pursell problem with getting electronics wet is the corrosion. It will oxidize the copper on the board over time and the whole thing will eventually crap out.

Chuck Pursell should have gotten the water proof switch

I’ve found with the switch. If it hasn’t be charged in a long time like yours. It will need to be charged overnight to wake up the battery. Sure you’ll want to replace it but it’ll be good enough to use from them on.

Thanks for a brilliant Video! I'm glad to see someone working on these foreign platforms. (Hq in Kyoto, when products come here then we should have someone who can Deal.) Just saying (saying a lot) my career began in 1958 selling my first at age 5 by my self made transistor substitution box to an Electronic novelist! Well, every since struggling with foreign technology, however, I had managed to repair every device that was handed to me for 53 years, also 48 seasonal years of Carp, plumbing,and Electricity. Well, at the University of CO, after hearing much about many Game Schools opening here, 2007 thru 2011, I asked if they taught or had Classes that I could take to fix foreign Game systems , I was shocked, no classes offered Electronics in this area. There I was on my own as usual! Today, we still need a School that can teach foreign tech's. You're the Guy for the Job, ha-ha! Good-Luck (No Schools here as of yet. I would open an Engineering Institute but lack the funding, you know Tv, Game, and Switch tools cost can rise $200,000 just for some of the tools that you need for Repairing Tv's.)

Theres a kit from scosche (you can get it at Walmart) that is for installing car audio. It has a plastic tool for prying panels off in a car. Would work perfectly for getting that battery out. Just thought I'd let you know.
