The standard of our Members of Parliament (MPs) in Malaysia has become a public concern, considering the high remuneration that these elected representatives receive. It is deeply disappointing that many MPs, despite enjoying significant salaries, often engage in petty squabbles, name-calling, and pointless arguments over issues that are neither productive nor beneficial to the nation. It is common to see MPs argue over trivial matters such as the choice of words, historical precedents, or the language used in debates; issues that have no direct bearing on the real problems faced by the country now and future. The rakyat's concerns are clear: they want action, solutions, and improvements in areas that directly affect their lives. Some of the key issues that need urgent attention include: • Economic Conditions and Inflation: The rakyat looks to MPs to propose realistic, effective measures to help control inflation and stimulate economic growth that benefits all Malaysians, especially the lower-income and middle-class households. • Public Health: The COVID-19 pandemic has shown just how vulnerable Malaysia’s public health system is. There is a pressing need for MPs to focus on improving healthcare infrastructure, healthcare access, and affordability for all Malaysians. • Combating Corruption: Corruption remains one of the most crucial issues. Despite promises for greater transparency and accountability, the rakyat continues to see stories of abuse of power, mismanagement of public funds, and lack of justice for the corrupt. We want to witness those in power being held accountable and fostering a culture of integrity in both public and private sectors. • Infrastructure Development: MPs must ensure that both urban and rural areas have access to reliable transportation, better public services, and modern infrastructure that can support economic growth. Rural areas, continue to be underdeveloped. • Reduction of Crime: Safety and security are fundamental concerns for Malaysians. As crime rates continue to be a concern, the public is still hoping for better preventive measures to combat crime, improve law enforcement, and promote community safety. The prevention of crime in Malaysia should be a priority, alongside initiatives to strengthen the police force and improve the criminal justice system. The rakyat has entrusted MPs with their votes, but with that trust comes the responsibility to deliver results. The high salaries and allowances MPs receive should reflect their duty to work hard for the public good. Time spent in Parliament should be used to focus on policy-making, to pass laws that address national issues, and to ensure that the government is held accountable. Instead, the focus often shifts to personal conflicts, political point-scoring, and distractions that do nothing to address the issues of the day. The rakyat needs more than just symbolic gestures or rhetorical speeches. What Malaysia needs are concrete actions and innovative solutions to improve the lives of its citizens.
