This video was so beautiful in portraying your culture Annie. Me as a Mexican whenever we would visit Mexico I could hear how someone's Spanish is better/stronger than mine. It gave me insecurities on how my Spanish sounds to other's but, I've learned to embrace it.

I love this video. I'm a Chinese Australian and I have so much regret that I didn't learn. I'd love to do a video like this one day when I'm more confident but I only started learning Chinese again less than a year ago so there's a lot more to learn. You spoke so confidently you should be so proud! 💗

I understand your struggle annie. Im Malaysian and has never really spoke malay until like 2 years ago. It really takes time to learn, quite embarassing too as you're learning what's suppose to be your native language as your second language. I've improved since though, im able to use teen slangs these days too, and understand the little jokes in tiktok videos. I know you can do it🥳🥰

this is so cool!! i am a chinese adoptee, and like majority of adoptees i do not speak mandarin. i did not choose to learn mandarin in school, instead i choose spanish. but it was for different reasons to why annie didn’t choose to learn mandarin. i’ve had bad experiences with mandarin teachers. once in like fifth grade one mandarin teacher was asking everyone in the class questions when she was taking attendance. but then she asked all the asian kids a harder question, assuming that they knew chinese. one of my friends was japanese and she couldn’t respond. i had to tell her i was adopted and don’t speak mandarin, and at the time i wasn’t super confident about that piece of my identity. so when i was choosing my language in middle school i was self conscious about being chinese and needing to learn chinese. now that i am a junior in high school, i regret not taking chinese, but it also seems a bit too late to take it now since i am in my fourth year of spanish. but yeah, that’s my little rant about this :)

Annie, you’re not alone! I, as a 1st generation Mexican-American gal, too “hated” speaking Spanish and anything related to my Mexican culture… My subconscious wanted to disassociate from it because 1. childhood trauma caused by machismo (translated: toxic masculinity) and 2. what society, media, etc. was SHOVING down my subconscious’s throat… It’s not our fault. We were only children and now that we are growing up, it’s a blessing to recognize that it isn’t too late and you still have time. 🌱 I feel super thankful to have gotten out of that mindset ages ago. Wishing you all the best on your journey with your beautiful culture. 🇨🇳 🌹✨ P.S Your Chinese sounds perfect to me.💝

just a few quick tips!! as someone who speaks mandarin, the accent is definitely there, like some of her tones are not the most accurate. for example, 因为(yinwei) it supposed to sound a bit different. also it should be 一本书(yi ben shu) instead of 一个书(yi ge shu). small things like than can make a huge difference. keep improving and you'll see how confident you can feel in speaking mandarin! :)

Girl your mandarin is freakin good. I quit Sunday Chinese school because my teacher was super old school and would hit me on the head with a book and I told my mom and we stopped going. We tried to learn it at home but it was hard with my mom reaching us. I didn’t get to work on my mandarin until I was working full time and was assigned Chinese clients LOL then I was forced to learn. I can’t believe I chose French over mandarin but mandarin also wasn’t an option in high school. ASIAN PRIDE YALL

My family immigrated from various European countries during the 20th century so it’s been enough generations that I only ever spoke English. I’ve always been interested in languages though so when I was 11, I decided I was going to learn Spanish. I started by using duolingo and eventually would do two hours of practice a day. After five years, I finally finished my course in 2021. I’ve also been learning Italian now for a few months and I’m building my vocabulary. I’d love to branch out and learn more eventually but I think it’s so cool that you embrace your culture. I’ve heard mandarin can be difficult 💕

I'm born outside of China and my parents spoke to me in a mixture of English and Mandarin so I wasn't able to speak Mandarin as fluently, let alone read nor write well. Moreover, I was sent to an international school from elementary til high school which caused my love for only the English language to expand. It had only been a few years since I realized how important it is for me to know my mother tongue so I re-learned everything on my own.
