Im going to be spearing for bass next week. What area and time of day would you recommend?
@arkansaslakediver4 жыл бұрын
Any time before it gets to hot or late evening is when I like to go. Definitely look for structure under water. Bass love hanging out in stumpy areas and piled up brush/limb piles. Let me know how you did!

@@arkansaslakediver Thanks pal! Another question for ya, is there a shop on the lake that sells spearfishing equipment? Iv got a pole spear but if that doesnt work out ill get a speargun (if I can find one around there) Im camping in the brady mountain recreation area.
@arkansaslakediver4 жыл бұрын
@@KB-gd6fc there are two dive shops on the lake that I"m aware of. Ocean Extreme and Lake Ouachita Dive Center. I would call them first to see if they even sale spear guns prior to arriving. There's also Scuba & Archery Center in Hot Springs that might sell them. If it was me, I would go ahead and buy a second spear gun prior to getting at the lake. I carry at least two with me while spear fishing, just in case one of them breaks. I always have a back up. And sometimes I have a back up to the back up. LOL

@@turdferguson9022 I personally don't spearfish bass. I prefer to catch them by pole. But it doesn't mean somebody else shouldn't spearfish for bass. I would need you to point out any study that biologist have done that spear fishing for bass messes up the ecosystem. If it actually did, spearfishing or any type of bass fishing would be illegal. The experts have deemed it legal to spearfish bass. I don't see how your opinion, that's not based in facts, should prevent anyone from spearfishing bass. Spearfishing is fun. You should try it.

What depth were the crappie at? Me and my dad never see them
@arkansaslakediver2 жыл бұрын
Around 15 feet. You'll find them above structure. They love to hang out above sunken cedar trees or leafy tree limbs. They don't stick around for very long when spotted.

Very nice dove there once in July 2 years ago. Just looked around a bit since I am a free diver. What would you say are the best months for walleye?
@arkansaslakediver5 жыл бұрын
Not for sure about the best months. I do find them right below thermocline during the summer months though. About 20-25 feet deep depending on how hot it is that day.

@@arkansaslakediver I was at bull shoals july 4th the last 2 years. When the water was 29ft high I found walleye. Last year at normal pool I went below the thrlermocline and never saw a single walleye. Now I am freediving so dont hang out long. Thanks for the information

Wait; you can spearfish for Bass? I thought only rough fish could be taken by spear?
@arkansaslakediver3 жыл бұрын
Why would you think that? I personally don't spearfish for bass, some lakes in Arkansas it's allowed. Also, their might be a slot length, depending on what lake you are on. Read the 2021 Arkansas Fishing Guidebook, specifically the rules for each lake. drive.google.com/file/d/13IP52QbSee8-rsmDy7as7hs6E1k5HiQw/view

@@arkansaslakediver I'm in Georgia, but I thought it was like that almost everywhere
@arkansaslakediver3 жыл бұрын
Nope. Every state has their own fishing rules. Arkansas allows spearfishing of any type of game fish during spearfishing season.

In this video I'm using the Mares MiniMini Sten. Nice little spear gun, doesn't take up much space and packs a wallop. LOL Spear tip I'm using the Mares Nylon Trident Spearfishing Tip 3-Prong. 7mm Thread. Got it off of amazon. Thanks for watching James.
