using the bungee makes no sense when using the reel...toss out the bungee just a weak point

It let's you put drag on the fish worrying about less ripping with the bungee. Spectra/dynema have no stretch. If you used some mono for a shooting line you wouldn't need the shock cord. It gives some stretch to negate the direct pressure on the shaft end
