I was a lifeguard in the earlier 1980s. Plenty of first aid and additional training back then, plus some additional training in the military. Over the years, between adventuring outdoors, being deployed in the desert, kids, and just life, I've organized a tidy little first aid sack which I keep in an old camera bag. I highly recommend anyone travelling off the beaten path be capable of a wide variety of first aid care, along with some lesser known knowledge, such as how to properly remove porcupine quills, which does and doesn't work for jellyfish stings, how to set broken bone...

Awesome episode Colin and Brit! I can never thank you enough for the experience. For everyone else I always comment on all episodes to help with the algorithm but did not expect all the comments to my comments. It is very humbling and thank you all! @jeffs9530 I’ve never been mentioned in a poem before! Thank you. From now on I’m like everyone else waiting for my weekly Parlay fix not knowing what it will be about! And remember that 20 years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did. So what are you waiting for? Chosen

Ooooweee Jamie. Sorry for you man. Tip: When you get the Novacane or Lidacane needle, pinch the other side of your body first. Our brains can only focus on one sensation at a time, if we're pinching our leg and the dentist is poking that needle, we don't even notice it. Better if someone else pinches you.

Excellent episode! That was a surgeonfish. They are named because they have sharp spines at the base of their tail or caudal fin, resembling a scalpel used by surgeons. Now I know how true this is!

I'm not surprised We Sail was able to give you that technology and explain its use. He is a "retired" pilot and she a "retired" stewardess . Covid apparently had some things to do with that retirement. Yes, and my favorites with Nahoa were the exploration in Indonesia of the Wooden Boat Building. So cool STEVE that you were able to do all this, what a thing to add to your lifetime achievements ! And if you've made it this far, QUESTION, where is Tom now . Singing somewhere ? Sailing ? Unfortunately, I'm not a Patron, so they won't read this. feel free to answer or comment on anything !
@divekatdreaming Жыл бұрын
Those fish are called surgeonfish, because of that sharp spike on the tail. There are around 80 species in the family. The blue tangs that you see everywhere belong to this family. They are supercool to see!!! Jamie, I hope you recover quickly, and I am so happy to hear that your spearfishing accident did not involve a spear!!!
@TheGolopablo Жыл бұрын
Jaimie just met the SURGEON FISH...and got his name from the little scalpels he has at the base of the tail on both sides. It is worth reading a little or asking the locals before you go in different waters and watch out what dangers are present like cube jellyfish, blue ring octopus, cones, squirrel fish, stone fish, pajama sea snakes....

Not by chance these fishes are called Surgeon fish, with reference to the sharp scalpel shaped bone they have on the side of their tail.

I forgot how well spoken and articulate your narration is Colin, you are naturally gifted in the arts, it’s been a while since I’ve watched your videos, so nice to see your cat sailing well. Jamie is such a trooper. I heard many years back, that lime juice is squeezed onto the cuts of surfers on the reefs to stop infection from the bacteria, this was done on the boats in Tahiti that sat along side the pro surfers, my sister used to paddle in outriggers with Tahitians on these boats. Jamie did need stitches, ouch! Take care all..

The Chosen, truly a fitting name. I was chosen too, but for Sailing doodles. Sadly, due a problem with the State Department I couldn’t go. But out of the blue, I received a phone call in the morning. Had a received one day earlier. This could’ve been fixed. It was from David Shih and now I’ve gotten to know David, even though I was already watching his videos but him, reaching out to me, just shows me the kindness of everybody who’s been involved with parlay. I got almost the same injury a few years back, except it opened up the entire back of my thumb to the bone. I was feeding the fish peas while snorkeling, but never did that again. Very painful, but now, 20 years later, I have an awesome scar to show off!!

Colin I'd recommend buying a pig dog stitch kit. It comes with a tube of collagulating and anesthetic ointment plus sutures and best of all a surgical staple gun. Best to buy as well a staple remover as using long nose pliers is a bit ordinary. I reattached the top of my thumb which was down to the bone. I used bourbon to do that. Worked well.
