My Friend Dimos, as always it is a pleasure watching your videos and I wish you, your channel and your family all the best as we head into the festive season, I would like to ask you a favor, please read up on the consequences of scraping off marine growth from turtles, we are inclined to think of it as relieving and helpful but despite only the purest intentions this action may expose the animal to infections, it is widely recommended in the marine biology world to discourage scraping or removing by mechanical means as the shell receives lacerations and those lacerations may result in infections and eventually death, also as the turtle has sensation in the shell it may cause them pain if the growth is sufficiently tightly held on as it tears the surface off. if a turtle has severe growth on it, this is an indication that the animal is in poor health so if it receives cuts it is more likely to become infected - if you really want to help the animal, place it in a tub of fresh water for about an hour or two, the growths need salt water to survive but fresh water does not effect the animal, the growth will die and will start to fall off after the animal is released into the wild. I know you meant only good here but it is important to discourage this action and educate people on the right things to do.

Thank you very much for clearing this out Arnovan!!! If you look closely i didn't attempt to put the blade under the barnacle worried that i might cut the shell! I know that the shell is soft enough to cut through it! That's why i only placed the knife on the barnacle itself and pushed it off! I only removed 3 or 4 barnacles that came off with the 1st or second attempt and didn't keep trying. Also i only did it while the turtle kept coming back to me! After removing those 4(i think), she tried to bite me 2 times and i received that as a request to stop and i did stop immediately! I knew that i could harm the turle's shell with the knife and i was really careful not to. At the same time though barnacles growth into the shell can create cracks, where bacteria and other organisms can get in. In total i think i gave the animal a slightly better streamline on the back of the shell and didn't cause any damage or it would have swam away immediately!! Anyway thank you very much for educating me further on the issue!!! I will PIN your comment so everyone can see it!

@@spearfishinglifegreece No worries, thank you for your reply. I agree that you where very careful, I think my caution is more to the public, than you specifically. I have seen so many people latch onto this idea and take scrapers to the shells of turtles thinking they are helping the animals. I respect that they are intending to do good, just made it my point to share the correct info whenever I can. all the best!
@spearfishinglifegreeceАй бұрын
@@ArnovanWyk-q2j Υeah i agree with what you are saying and it's good that it is mentioned under the video!!! In the video you can clearly see that the animal is not bound and it chooses to stay and have the barnacles removed. I'm not even holding it on the surface while trying to remove them! I don't believe it felt any pain or discomfort or it would simply swim away.

Για άλλη μια φορά man Respect.

I watch your videos regularly and I just wonder watching you preparing the fish if you leave the fish scales on - especially in cases where you put the whole fish in the oven, by the way what temperature do you use and how long do leave it in the oven? Greetings from Austria!
@spearfishinglifegreeceАй бұрын
Hello man! I like leaving the scales on when the fish is going into the freezer. The extra layer of protection against the ice keeps the fish meat in better condition! Also i like cooking it with the scales because all the jouces get trapped inside and it cooks from the inside out! Temp is 200degrees at air mode for about 50min for a 2kg fish
@ApneaPlanetАй бұрын
@@spearfishinglifegreece Thanks for your explaining answer - will try it with my next fish (hopefully April/May next year - Austria is far away form the sea - nearest destination croatia - so to go spearfishing is always a little chellange for me) and all my fish in the freezer have no scales anymore because I cleaned them already before freezing - should really have asked you earlier...., and now I understand that even dry fish like all the mackerels look so juicy when they come out of the oven in your videos. Deep Blue greetings! 🤙

inaccurate, please don't do this, a turtle`s shell is like a human`s skin and although the intention is good, scraping off barnacles and marine growth results in lacerations on the turtle shell which can lead to infection and death - the reason you see these growths on the shell is because the turtle`s health is already a bit compromised, if you really want to help a turtle with too much growth, put it in fresh water, the turtle wont be effected by the salinity of the water but the growths will die after about an hour and after released the turtle will gradually loose all the growth.
