I applaud you for your honesty about using scuba to safely retrieve that fish. DQ’ed you from the world record but you are alive and you got a fish of a lifetime
@AntiVaganza2 жыл бұрын
True, but I guess not DQ'ed from putting it in the title. I am slightly conflicted about that as it makes it sound like he cares about the record, in which case he should have tried to actually retrieve it per the rules - also, his brother may have loaded the second gun (?) which is a DQ, too. Mind you, I don't even think we should give out records for killing the biggest animal possible. (and yes, I spear myself). Complicated, as they say;) Anyhow, I guess he is feeding the algorithm...

@AntiVaganza2 жыл бұрын
@@jwhit8841 sure. And you have every right to. And he didn’t just see it. He spotted it, didn’t shoot it, went back and prepared and planned to shoot and land it. There’s honor in that. There’s also a whole lot of trophy need in it, I personally think, which is the part that left me conflicted. My post is quite clear about why we should consider stopping to shoot the biggest animals if we really care about limiting impact. Then there’s the WR title to take issue with but maybe that’s just the fact loving journalist in me speaking. I don’t have the answers, as I said, I’m conflicted on the matter. I am not without respect for the endeavor, I just wanna be one of the voices trying to unhype “bigger is better”.

@AntiVaganza2 жыл бұрын
@@efraimmedina461 Yes, and? If you are a meat eater, your argument is hollow, even more so if you eat fish. Hunters and spearos are amongst the most selective meat "harvesters" you will ever find. Commercial fishing destroys reefs and has tons of bycatch issues. The farmed fish industry may be what we have to do to save our oceans, but as of now, it's polluting like crazy and many "products" from there are chuck full of growth hormones and antibiotics. Raising live stock is a huge industry which generally pollutes, encroaches on natural lands and has animal welfare as a low priority. A wild animal that led a free life until it was killed by a human, selectively and then eaten may sound harsh, but is it better to have millions of live stock living in so-so conditions only for the sole reason of being fed to us? Both are instances of humans killing animals for food. But meat neatly wrapped in the supermarket means the consumers are so removed from that simple fact. I eat both supermarket meat and my own speared fish. I can answer for both but if I meet a vegan/vegetarian (who isn't a militant) I respect them endlessly more than the hypocritic, ignorant meat eaters who hate on hunters and spearos.
