Appreciate the support! Bummer....I always check the tides, winds, and visibility(if available) before heading out. Got to make the trip worth it. But at the same time SoCal has it a bit easier compared to mid/nor California. Happy Diving!

your videos have me psyched to try and get out in the water. I currently live in the North Hollywood area and figure I'd best get some gear to just to see how I am freediving in California conditions. I figure that's a spearfishing prerequisite. Are there any resources you'd suggest for me? Thanks for the content and keep it coming!

Hey Chris! Appreciate the support. Spearfishing is a great way to sustainably catch your own food but also just enjoy the marine life in the area. To establish a solid foundation to build off of, I would highly recommend buying quality goggles, snorkel, and fins. With those, you can spend more time freediving and less time dealing with cheap finicky gear. Below are some videos that can help with finding the right goggles, snorkel, and fins: Goggles: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZzbf3aKgqdkkM0 Snorkels: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rV6oeI1-pqqDerM Fins: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYrEpYR-h9CKZ6s A shop I highly recommend is Spear America. They have two locations: Irvine, and Redondo(closer to you). They have all the gear you would need and the expertise to back it up. You can find the address here: www.spearamerica.com/pages/store-locations For overall tips for beginners, I really enjoy the videos from Adreno: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXTSnnaXn8SSeLs Also, check out some spearfishing clubs to get connected and simply learn from others in the area. OC Spearos, is a local club I follow on FB: facebook.com/groups/471863019661220 Hope this helps! Enjoy the dive.

Great video. I love in PV and fish the area in my hobie but the wife and I are gonna get the dive cert from Pacific Wilderness in Pedro. Would you say PV is a good beginner dive area for spearfishing or are there easier to navigate fishing grounds for the beginning diver?
@divespeareat
@divespeareat 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words. Getting your certification is great! Looks like that cert is for scuba diving. I haven't scuba dove before so it would be hard to say with a degree of confidence if PV is a good spot or not. BUT based on my familiarity of the area I would say it would not be the most ideal spot for beginners, mainly because the entry and exit can be a bit tricky due to the rocky shore, thick clusters of kelp, and you have to carry your gear up and down steep hiking trails to get to/from the dive spot. With that being said I have seen scuba divers frequent the spot. From a spearfishing perspective, I love diving PV for the diversity of fish, hiding in kelp, and potential White Sea Bass. If you try to dive PV, I would recommend trying to get someone familiar with the area to guide you and give you some pointers. I would recommend a spot that has a easy entry/exit and less kelp density to reduce the danger of getting tangled. If you are ever in the Orange county area I would say Crystal Cove(specifically Reef's Point") is a very popular spot to scuba. For the Los Angeles area I have seen many videos in Santa Monica & Redondo. But I am not familiar enough to recommend those spots. Hope this helps. Dive Safe!

@@divespeareat Awesome thanks. I was planning on launching my 14 foot kayak and using it as a dive platform. My concern was exactly as you stated, about the kelp density etc for a beginner. Again, thanks for the info and you have a new subscriber.
@divespeareat
@divespeareat 3 жыл бұрын
@@DIGTHEVOICE Thank you for the subscription! Gotcha if you are taking a kayak out there I wouldn't worry too much. You can anchor your kayak at the fringe of the kelp and manage just fine, as the kelp tends to be less dense. Just watch out for smaller boats especially on the weekend because they tend to hang out there too. Have fun!

Awesome vids man! I keep seeing you are going out for white seabass, best time for them is probably just before march to mid January. Just wanted ask what size meandros reel you have?
@divespeareat
@divespeareat 3 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the support! Yea, I hear the best time is to go then but I just enjoy diving the area when I can...maybe I will get lucky =) Appreciate the tip! For the reel, I have the 50m sized reel. I have yet to catch anything big enough to take any significant line, so it works fine for now. Hoping this upcoming season I could finally land my first Yellowtail and White Sea Bass.

What mm wet suit did you have on to dive the cold water?
@divespeareat
@divespeareat 4 жыл бұрын
I actually use the same suit I use for Summer. I use a 5.5mm Salvimar wet suit. Still good enough to keep me in the water for 2-3 hours comfortably.
