I grew up getting scallops here in Florida. Strict limits on those too. We would go with a big group of friends and basically took some people that didn't even know how to swim just so we could have them on the boat for a bigger bag limit. My dad would eat so many that he wound up with heavy metal poisoning, specifically arsenic. At the time though we had no idea what was causing it. We had friends who owned an old cattle ranch and we thought since arsenic was used to kill the insects on the cows, it had leeched into the water table. That wasn't it. My mom was investigated by the cops! Then poison control finally told us it was the scallops! He was eating about a quart of scallops a day. That was enough. Not sure if that is an issue in your part of the world, but maybe worth checking out sir.

Definitely not in Tassie but damn thats a crazy story sorry to hear that man. Yeah shellfish can be dangerous for all kinds of reasons especially filter feeders they can absorb a lot of nasties

It used to be a relatively easy feed in the 5-8m range there, but they have been hammered over the last 5+years very hard sadly. Great vid too

My favorite way to eat scallops besides fried, is to,Sautee them in herb butter, then serve over some linguini. Take some Italian bread and toast it, then soak it in the liquid the scallops cooked in. Serve it with the pasta and scallops. Add just a sprinkle of parmesan romano cheese and a small dash of black pepper.

As a fellow Sydney diver, I haven’t been fortunate enough to ever catch my own scallops although I love them so much. Also I’m confused how there were so many oysters just in the sand. I’ve always thought oysters needed a rock or pylon or some sort of structure to grow on and reproduce. And when you said most of these scallops were harvested at 16-18, is that meters, or feet?

In Norway there's scallops almost everywhere. But I only pick them when I can't catch any fish nor crabs, or for other people... I like them a lot, but it's not my favorite thing in the ocean. I much prefer queen scallops. Here they're not even quarter the size of the one in the video, but they're delicious.

I've heard of people catching them in pots. But they're not common outside the northern part of Norway. There's plenty of brown edible crabs though.
