Spec Manual Updates: July-Dec 2024 Discharges & Challenging Abstraction - Sepsis Chatter (Spring 24)

Welcome to the Spring 2024 Edition of Sepsis Chatter!
Our newest video presentation is titled: “Sepsis Chatter-Specification Manual Updates for Discharges July 1, 2024, through December 31,2024 and Challenging Abstraction Review”.
This presentation discusses the updated abstraction guidelines and instructions for discharges beginning July 1, 2024. Also, the presentation includes three challenging case scenarios that have inspired in-depth interpretation discussions over the past few months. The following sub-topics will be covered in detail:
• Sex Assigned at Birth
• Gender Identity
• Sexual Orientation
• Medical Record Documentation- Addendums and late entries
• Crystalloid fluid administration-Lesser volume ordered and administered documentation
Each of the covered topics will include specific abstraction guidance that is defined in the upcoming and/or current CMS Specifications Manual for National Hospital Inpatient Quality Measures. We will review the application of these guidelines using examples and rationale.
