Very glad that you walked away from that! It looks like the cage did a great job, any deflection on the passenger side? Going to pour one out for that little car.

Thanks Matt! Cage appears to have held up well with no deformation that I can see. Bummer about the car, she's been good to me these last 6/7 years! :(

Other than the loss of the car, that accident was best of both worlds, epic epic video and flips, and actually seemed to dissipate energy really well while rolling to the point where no single impact seemed to be particularly high G

Thumbs UP! for walking away from this. Also, congrats to whomever designed and installed/welded the cage in this car. Additionally, all the rest of the safety gear was installed properly and functioned accordingly. This video should be watched by all who want to race on a track, especially a convertible Miata or any other convertible vehicle. Will you be racing again or did your wife drop the black flag for good?

Yeah glad your ok man, so the car was a complete loss? What exact damage made it so?
@JoshVanVeld2 жыл бұрын
That was insane! Do you think he knew you were there and just couldn't hold his line or was he unaware that you were there? Seems like he wasn't ready for a second car to get to him so quickly. Wild video. Glad you're alright, sorry about the car. Edit: Oops, didn't mean to assume gender of the other driver.
@speedengineering2 жыл бұрын
While I haven't heard the other driver's perspective, from studying the video, I suspect that she didn't realize that I was there. She opens up her steering input just prior to the impact, I suspect she intended to move to track left by corner exit to allow Davis to pass on the right. Right hand corner, looking right, would be easy to miss someone on your left unless you remembered to specifically check that outside mirror...

Watched a bunch of vids from the Miata Cup Series and was surprised to see this happen a number of times. Wonder if it's the lightness of the Miata that causes this more so than heavier cars. Gotta play some part in it I guess.
@62Sketch2 жыл бұрын
@El Barbero Makes sense. I did just see this also. Looks like they are adding some bracing to the rear fender of the Cup cars to try and eliminate some wheel to wheel contact. Check out 7:35 of this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5Syi4NuaMqSgqM

Glad you are good. How did the seat hold up on the roll? I have the same in my SM.
@speedengineering2 жыл бұрын
It appears to have done well. The right side shoulder bolster bent out wards perhaps an inch or two. I assume they are supposed to do so, to absorb some of the impact. The seat doesn't look bent at the base at all, but it did have a seat back brace to help support the seat.

@@speedengineering what’s all wrong with this 1.6 since the accident? Is the frame/firewall intact or is it all suspension and cosmetic damage?
@BackroadBender2 жыл бұрын
That is the worst! In sim racing I have learned the hard way so many times that you just can't drive wheel to wheel with people that might not have the best car control in the back of the pack. Seems like the other car just innocently understeered into you when they should have just yielded a tenth of whatever

@g8rfan12 жыл бұрын
wow. wheel contact launch you I guess?
@speedengineering2 жыл бұрын
Yes! I believe the tire-to-tire contact is what launched my vehicle and caused the rollover. Normally this sort of hit would just have resulted in replacing a door, fender, wheel, and/or suspension bits. Oh well.
