I think RE has actually tapped into the ‘rider’ mentality- rather than the crotch rockets that came out from Japanese manufacturing as times got hard, the still produced bigger, faster, more expensive bikes mostly- Enfield found that by making bikes you can just ride, and afford they would sell - We’re looking at the result now ! Top marks to Enfield!

Hi Nick yes I thoroughly agree! Let’s also be mindful that REs main customer base is in India where most working people use motorbikes and mopeds as their main source of transport and the average Indian worker is not wealthy (as far as I know)…- - It’s just a very fortunate by-product for RE that the name is still very dearly loved in Britain and still appeals to a mature customer base with an (albeit modest) amount of disposable income. Hoorah for Royal Enfield ! 👏👍😊

Royal Enfield is doing so much correctly that other motorcycle manufactures would be very wise to emulate. Clearly, RE is a company headed by true motorcycle enthusiasts and apparently staffed by like minded people in key positions. I do not know if I have ever witnessed a more harmonious manufacturer of any product in my lifetime. I watched a video from another KZbinr the other day lamenting about the terrible "state of the motorcycle industry"... of course, his perspective was focused on Harley Davidson and the current situation of that company. HD leadership needs to walk a few blocks down from their Milwaukee headquarters and take a peek at what RE is doing at their USA headquarters... and, once they do, they should be inspired to actually build bikes that appeal to true riders and at a price that attracts a wider range of prospective buyers. I have owned several HD's and over the years, they just became too clownish, overdone and way overpriced. RE has some serious mojo going on at the moment... mojo to be revered by any company that manufactures such a product line.

I ordered my Meteor 350 in March 2021 and it was delivered in November 2021 hugely frustrating as I wanted to ride in the warmer weather. Every month I was told it would be a couple more weeks, the dealer was helpful and I believe them when they said that Moto GB was a nightmare to work with...

But do you think they might of been getting the same bogus information from RE and were just as frustrated as you? This could be where RE, as UK distribution novices, enter the scene and then realize how costly it can be. Next you know there’s another £200 on every bike.

Excellent comments. As an older rider who rides just about every day through the winter, I am sick of the sports bike crowd with their contempt for others, they get us all a bad name, and many of them are simply candidates for a long box. I have been approached at gas stations, lay-bys, cafes etc riding my Bullet in Canada, by Indian people on sightseeing vacations or living here. There is an immediate enlightenment and happy bond, they sit on the bike and take pictures for the folks back home, or take the Bullet for a spin round the car park. I still hear from some of them; their culture is open and welcoming, respectful and humane.

A great business move in my opinion. With Triumph returning to UK production and BSA promising the same, Royal Enfield cementing a further corporate foothold within the UK is definitely a wise move and will be great, as you say, for both their dealer network and end customers too. I will always be grateful to Moto GB though for the deal they did for me early this year on two brand new old stock 2020 Euro 4 Himalayans. One each for me and my brother. £4.2k each, on the road, c/w £500 worth of RE hard panniers and rails each too 😊

If the apathy I was shown on the MotoGB stand last Wednesday was indicative of thier approach this can only be a good move ! My only fear is they snatch away the RE sales from all the small dealers like DW Motorcycles in Scarborough that have shown faith in the brand from the start and give the sales to swankier dealerships where RE won't be thier main focus just another name on thier fascia and start giving buyers that "special" main dealership experience we all love !

Thank you so much Stuart, excellent and enlightened vlog as always. Reflecting on MOOG's experience at Motorcycle Live 2022 below. May I share an experience that has been troubling me. During my visit to the show I met a senior member of staff on the Royal Enfield stand, during our conversation he completely ignored all my questions about the Royal enfield range and told me to go and look at the Benelli bikes, . He was very insistent and determined that I went to look at the Benelli stand. He was from a large dealership that stocked many of the MotoGB imported brands. My lasting impression was that there were other interests at play here other than those of Royal Enfield. I think a change in distributor is most appropriate and will help to ensure that the Royal Enfield brand continues to develop here in the UK.

To be fair, no where pragmatic has the geography for legally and safely realizing the potential for super bikes. Many seemed obsessed with speed or "CC" - poor values sadly furthered by trade outlets and reviewers to this day. It's almost a societal learned behavior. For example, almost all reviews of Enfields bring up HP and refers to "power" in an embarrassing manner and/or illogical context. It's so ingrained, I don't know that they even realize it.

It’s a massive good move for RE as many of the bigger mega dealers have Enfield as a side idea tucked away in a corner down a corridor. When the customer knows more about a model then the sales person it’s a problem. RE could be very kind to its fast growing loyal followers by standardizing the cost for things such as breaking in service. The cost for that for instance here in the US can vary greatly depending on the dealership. I know of cost from $150 to $650. Ridiculous, should be a flat rate.

Good move R.E. The Japanese and H.D. could take a lesson from Royal Enfield. Remove the crotch rockets and H.D.'s two wheel land yachts and what do you have? Ugly (fugly) two wheel motorcycles, covered with sharp edge plastic aerodynamic (?) bits covering some other ugly bit & pieces. What is a motorcycle anyway? It's a big ass bicycle powered by an internal combustion engine. I want one where I can see just about everything on it, one that is not covered in plastic shit. I want to do the maintenance myself, I don't want shim over bucket valve adjustment, and a fair price would be nice too. Yea. Royal Enfield did it and they are showing the world what a big portion of the public wants. If Royal Enfield could just build a Himalayan capable of a steady 75-80 mph on US Interstate highways, I'd buy one before the Lord gets the news. The Himalayan just looks like a manly motorcycle. Am I going to ride it in the dirt or over rocks the size of my head? I'm 76, old and brittle, to old for that, but I might take it on a camping trip, or I might ride it 800 miles to my sisters house. Maybe a 650 twin on a Himalayan would make a good old mans bike.

Moto GB's "quirky" bikes, as you call them, seem to be mainly Chinese 125cc learner bikes, plus Benelli (Chinese owned) up to 752cc. RE has become more mainstream now, so I hope this development will be good for current & prospective owners.

Thats a great move by RE. Hope they get the required inputs from it to launch their products worldwide to compete with other international well established players and we Indians get benefited from that here with better and better , reliable products as a by product of it.

Hello - I have noticed that some Royal Enfield dealerships are offering the RE Interceptor 650 for £4999 plus OTR which makes quite a saving! Can someone explain please? As not all dealerships are offering this discount. My local RE Dealership doesn't appear to offer such discounts? Question, would my local dealership support me if I didn't buy from them. (I like the idea of buying locally if possible) Thanks

Sounds like it’s a move in the right direction, but how (if at all) would it affect distro in the US?🤔

Hey mr. Stu, I recently saw rider mania online. And royal Enfield is doing some interesting things with the events. Do u reckon with this new UK push. Such things will also be held there or is it happening over there already. Nevertheless it makes for more inclusive amd riders culture.

This seems like good news and hope it leads to good things. I worry that success might spoil Rock Hunter. By that bad joke, I mean that Royal Enfield will go the way of other businesses (across industries and specifically in the motorcycle arena) who've lost their way. Aside: It's interesting to see news outlets who not long ago talked trash and spread misinformation (AKA lied, talked out their *rse, etc.) about Royal Enfield are now begrudgingly (my take) being positive about them subsequent to their rise in popularity and financial success. Associated tangential rant of sorts: You may notice during many "positive" reviews, that the reviewer still gets in digs - whether it's a few off-hand comments sprinkled throughout, back-handed compliments or via inflection and body language. I don't know if it's discrimination and disdain due to the country of origin, the type of bike, perceived values, instilled peer/societal values, poor boundaries, or what. It's annoying. Right up there with people (again, across industries) being afraid of damaging their unhealthy relationships with manufacturers. There are a plethora of good articles about this in the wild. Aside: In critiquing and life, I appreciate proactive honesty, sincerity,, openness, integrity, and Guinness on the house.

Picked up my meteor fireball in September, noticed a section of wheel tape coming free on the first day, reported it to the dealer who put in a claim- he's still awaiting a reply. Love the bike, but I hope RE taking over distribution in the UK just might avoid this sort of thing happening-I'm getting fed up of the "lovely bike, how come the wheel trim is coming off?" comments.

They are taking over import and distribution. But does that mean present dealers will no longer sell them. Including moto gb dealers? I Don t think they are all moto gb are they? But they are in lancashire and Manchester and Merseyside

they saw the importer gouging the price and making more than them on bikes by doubling the prices...so i guess they'll pocket it themselves now and if need be they'll have ample margin to lower the prices. if they'd put indian price on those puppies they would flatten everything in theyre path

Pity they're not doing the same thing in Indonesia. The current dealer couldn't be worse. I'd never buy another RE from them. Why? They sell bikes and forget to tell you that it takes 6-7 months to get your number plates, and about 1 year to get your owner's title. Partly the government's fault, but the dealer is happy to sell bikes and keep buyers in the dark until they realise they've been screwed and have to garage their new bike for 6-7 months after buying it. Completely unethical.
Why should you ride a motorcycle as you get older? When are you too old?
