Gangs are everywhere. I am from tiny New Zealand, with only 5 million people. Believe it or not we have a huge gang problem. We even have multi-generational gangsterism. Kids, moms, dads and even grandparents in the same gangs. We have to look at the root issues to solve the problem. It all starts with poverty & lack of opportunities among a segment of society. Add in single parent households and boredom among the youth. You get gangs!

@DONNELL836 Yes, I know our situation in no way compares to Cape Town. More people are murdered in a single day in Cape Town than in 6 month in New Zealand. Also, Cape Town has more murders per year than the U.S. cities of Chicago, Detroit, New York City and L.A. combined. My point was that all these issues with gangs, all over the world have the same root causation. Poverty and socioeconomic disenfranchisement among a lot of people. People living in communities with little to no jobs, hope or opportunities. For many generations. The gangs often fill the void, but has disastrous consequences for society.
