Take your bergan to Jay Jay's in Brecon and get the three pouches sewn on the front instead of the 1 pouch....makes separating your frequent use items easier. Ditch the old parka....very heavy for the warmth....loads of other options out there for good lighter weight warm and waterproof kit.....Snugpak bang out some top gear. With your basha, try the short loop of bungee around each tie down point....then from that have 2 meters of double paracord with a knot every fist distance.....this method allows you to wrap around any tree and loop back through the gap between the knots, using one of the knots as a stopper.....bungees were banned from the jungle phase of selection around 2000 due to guys getting severe eye injuries. Good luck on your next fan dance......however the real bi#ch on selection is Elan Valley

It doesn't make any sense to me to have the sleeping bag and bivvy bag at the bottom. In almost 20 years of service I never once had my gonk bag and bivvy at the bottom. That means that you've got to empty the whole thing to get them out. If you're looking to get a quick half hour in while there's a lull and you get contacted you've got to fanny about putting everything away again instead of two things. Put them at the top, they're easy enough to just stuff in there if you need to get the fuck out quickly. Not a criticism just an observation based on a lot of operational experience.

@@matthewjones9565 Mate it's no problem at all, all comments are welcome on this channel because I like to know how other people do it. You've got some valid points there, however, a bivvi and gonk bag is the only things I keep in my main compartment of my bergan really so I'm not really emptying much. The reason behind this is to leave enough room to top flap a daysack when we eventually leave a harbor/base location. Mental strength is everything it wont matter how fit you are if you cant push through when you want to give up thats why they call them special forces

@@kevinrobb86 it's not everything bud, you've gotta have the strength in the legs and a good cardro vascular level. That's why they give you 6 months off to train in the regiment. Once you're in they train thier body's on a daily to keep up with the workload. But I believe you have gotta have a good level of mental robustness.

What you carry depends where you are, European and Arctic you usually need a sleeping bag, but not in tropical dersert or rainforest, where you might need a hammock, lightweight blanket and plastic groundsheet. In middle east you usually have to carry a few days water supply, but not in SE Asia or Central America. In tropical rainforest you might get lightweight rations which need water added. I wonder if these new stoves are as good as the old hexamine stoves, I doubt it. On operations of course you also have to carry a rifle and ammunition., so the load varies according to circumstances. Always you need to keep it as light as possible.

I think your loadout should be put together as per operational requirements. You put what your likely to need first or more readily at the top of your bergan. E.g. your goretex etc

Yup - he’s gone into NGO stuff and cyber as he was a communicator - not a signaller. Para, pathfinders then D Sqn SAS and moved to B Sqn. He doesn’t like the British Army for a few reasons that I can’t mention in here - it’s from a long time ago. That’s all I’ll say about that. He’s got some mint stories though
