Special Guest Interview: Howard Levy and Béla Fleck

I’ve had the pleasure of sitting down with Béla and chatting after shows. Once, after his first duet with Chick Corea in Daytona, I waited after the show in the hall and out comes Bela and Chick and Béla and I talked for about 20 minutes while Chick was showing a couple of guys some piano techniques. Béla is a great guy and super humble. Chick was the reason that Béla started playing jazz on the banjo and he admitted he was really nervous for the first few songs playing with his idol for the first time. It was an incredible show.

Rarely are performers this down to earth and this much fun to hear them speak. They are truly genuine and they enjoy what they do. They are like a breath of fresh air. BTW, Harold is now age 70.
