I've been part of a ACIM based spiritual group for over 4 years now and what I've principally learned from that experience is that we've been so, so, so culturally programmed over multiple lives before we come to non-duality that it's easy to see how it would take several lifetimes for the average person to unwind all that even when convicted of the truth in having true teachings. Obviously, your mileage will vary based on your circumstances, dedication, and such but wow oh wow is humanity under a lot of spells.
