When you adopt an orphaned elephant or rhino for your loved one, your gift will support animals in need that have lost their families and are now completely reliant on our human caregivers. Established in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (SWT) operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation program, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned elephants and other animals that have lost their mothers, all too often as a result of human activity. But we do much more than this. Through our Aerial, Anti-Poaching and Mobile Veterinary Units, we safeguard the natural environment and provide immediate assistance to wild animals in need. Here it is Christmas eve and I am so happy I am fostering some of these angels--I will put an elephant ornament on my tree (Sheldrick Trust sells beautiful ones that I bought!) as I honor these babies and know how wonderful it feels that they are at SWT in Kenya being taking care of by wonderful carers and staff. Elephants are such great reminders and teachers of how much we need attachment with others. I aspire to love with an elephant's heart. @@laurabook9492 firstly, I think they cannot touch a calf unless they have approval from KWS . Secondly, before SWT takes the calf into care, there is always an attempt to find the mother and the herd. Often you will find the story behind the custody of each calf

I adopted Kerrio when she was first rescued. It is so good to see her running around especially chasing the warthogs. It is very good exercise for her. 칼루크의 사육사님들은 정말 진심으로 아기를 돌보는게 느껴집니다. 모든 칼루크 사육사님들의 얼굴과 행동을 보면 정말 사랑으로 아기들을 돌보는게 느껴져서 마음이 정말 따뜻하네요. 그 유대관계가 너무나 깊기에 아기들이 재통합으로 옮겨질때 사육사님과 같이 옮겼으면 더 좋지 않았나 싶네요. 또다른 이유가 있겠지만 보육원에서의 아기들은 밝고 구김이 없는데 재통합으로 간 애들은 얼굴에 웃음이 없습니다.외로워 보이고 더 빨리 나이가 많은 코끼리와 지내고 야생으로 가는것 같습니다. 진정한 야생으로 갈수 있는 나이가 10살~12살 이상이 되어야 한다고 저는 생각이 되네요. 나이가 많은 친구들이 지켜주고 하겠지만 우선적으로 본인이 지킬수 있는 나이가 되었을때 야생으로 나아갈수 있는게 아닌가 합니다.

I was lucky enough to visit the Sheldrick Trust when I visited Kenya a few years ago and now I decided that I wanted to help more. I've adopted two elephants Lemeki and Barnotti! Its so sad to see how they are rescued so young and the mothers die from draughts or killed in poaching! Its clear though that there is a great team and the keepers take incredible care of all the baby elephants! Thank you for all your hard hard work! ❤

I wonder if they share all the money they receive with all the elephants and not just the chosen one to be adopted. I say this cause it seems like most people chose the young babies to adopt. Also most people look at the first few pages of animals and not the 15, 16, 17 page and that's where the older elephants are. Be honest, who went to the 16th page and gave any of those elephants a chance?I'm assuming they do share all funds so the older ones get some love too. I sure hope so.

Oh I am sure they do as the Sheldrick Trust is such a loving and amazing organization! Yes my fosters are 4 and under But I realize I am making a commitment to them as they grow--so hopefully the older elephants are still in the hearts of many!!
