You should try memo shoes. They are very supportive and great and they also have plenty of room for orthotics. They are pricey but from a first hand account, they are totally worth it.

I never got to see a helicopter but I was picked up by a firetruck at 13 during a snowstorm (wheelchair & all). and I remember doing that hospital trip at that age with my class. it was funny 'cause I already knew my way around lol. glad ya'll had a good time, it is really good they learn about it! as for the shoes, good luck! I never found the right ones and went with those stretchy swim shoes over mine lol
