There are 63 special NPCs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Using their amiibo cards, you can make them vacation homes in Happy Home Paradise. Some of them automatically live together (Kapp'n and his family, the Able Sisters, Timmy and Tommy, Joan and Daisy Mae, Reese and Cyrus, and CJ and Flick), but everyone else lives alone.

From a developer standpoint, they probably just had them say the same thing because they didn't think of the possibility of the player asking for Blathers and Celeste to be roommates. From an in-game perspective, the thought just likely didn't cross either of their minds, since the two of them are pretty much the only characters whose sleep schedules are inverted like that.

See this level of personality is missing from most of ACNH. It’s pretty sad too. Villagers lost their personality. Their emotions too. These reactions are so diverse and fun. I just wish this level of care was in normal villagers like in the OG, Wild World, City Folk, and New Leaf. (As well as all these “missing characters”)

The fact they got rid of resetti… it’s just that Nintendo are more internet to keep things safe so it’s marketable. Also imagine if they talked about their roomates and stuff… they can’t explore thousands of dynamics sadly so I understand the choices.

I made a vacation home for Tom nook and isabelle before I knew about this, I had a double floor house and I worked really hard making Tom’s house on the bottom floor and making Isabelle’s on the top, when Tom refused to have a roommate I couldn’t bare to change the house I spent hours on making…..so I renamed the vacation home “Tom kicked out Isabelle”

We have all these new, better things we can do in the game that others were asking for people, can we please stop complaining just because not everything is up to your standards that will never be satisfied? The roost isnt as good as it was, the villagers dont talk as interactivly. I'm sorry, its almost as if there are HUNDREDS and they literally dont have that time. Please get over it, it's not like it ruins the game or anything, the game itself is great and far better than most other games out there when it comes to listening to what people want.

All they had to rlly do was keep the same personalitys and quirks that the old games had. I miss this uniqueness in villager responses. The past games each villager felt different from one another, even ones with the same personality but NH has too few lines of dialogue for each villager type as well as things you can do with them, like hanging out at your house unexpectedly, wanting to play tag, sending you letters randomly, and so on.

Sounds like your nostalgia goggles are clouding your perception. Non-villagers always had unique dialogue because they’re not bound to the limitations of certain “personality types” like the villagers are. The old games are the same as NH in that each villager personality type says the same shit and has the same limited dialogue with the only differences between them being separated by personality type and appearance. It was never more than what you’re making it out to be. Also, being able to play tag, sending you letters, etc. has nothing to do with villager personalities.

@@pathetic2399 I agree that nostalgia lets one perceive things in a more positive light than it originally was. Even in older games dialouge was repeated often and the villagers were limited. I still think new Horizon could have done a better job. I was a big fan of Villagers having a personailty type, a hobby and a favourite colour. Yes there are villagers that will have the same pattern of those three cartegories but it still gave us more variety than new horizon did. Especially because you couldn't choose you villagers back then. The chances of getting villagers with the same pattern was less. New Horizon gives you so much control of your villagers that the chances are high that you just stick to the same ones. Letters and playing tag indeed does not relate to the personality types but to the friendship level and luck (I'm not speaking of the ingame luck mechanic but the luck/chances of having one of those events). There were requests that were bound to hobbies in older games. A villager that had the trait of liking fossils would ask you more often to find a specific fossil for them, A villager liking the colour pink and furniture would ask you for pink furniture. Those little task that could go for days was what kept players invested in the older games. Yes those task are still in new horizon but extremly watered down. Most of the times it is a request you can fulfill in two minutes like "catch bug xy that is currently everywhere due to season and time". I also want to mention how broken the dialouge system was/is in New Horizon. The fact that all villagers would talk about three events that happened on repeat for days made them extremly bland. And the chances for those dialougs to appear was way too high so that there is dialouge you would never experience because talking about who visited your island was higher priority than other smalltalk. Personally this made me loose interest in trying to interact with villagers more often. Which is sad because there are fixes and new added dialouge but the experience I had prevents me from enjoying it. So yeah nostalgia overshadows many faults in the older games but that doesn't mean that the critic and comparison of new horizon by people that played the older games is just because of nostalgia. There are some fair points in some critics. Anyway I am sorry for rambling so much about this topic. I am just very passionate about this franchise and just to clarify: Even tho I have a lot to critic when it comes to New Horizons I still love the game and enjoy playing it. I think it a great game and a good entry for a different animal crossing. I am excited to see where they will go with the franchise in the future.

I remember the first pair of special characters I tried giving a home to were Orville and Wilbur because they work so hard for you/us/the avatar that I wanted them to be the first to have a little home away from home. Then Orville said he didn’t want a roommate and thought to myself, “Well since I can have multiple people living on the same island but separately, I’ll just recreate the design for Wilbur and pretend they just aren’t there at the same time due to work.” It works for me!

@@soulfarer2788 every other forced roommate group/duo is either a couple or family. none of the villagers who are actually business partners or friends have the option to live together (i.e. isabelle, brewster, blathers, etc). so yeah its pretty much confirmed theyre a couple, because they definitely arent related.

I can’t argue with most of these since they seem like valid excuses. Siblings don’t have to be with each other all the time, so I’m fine with the fact Pelly and Phyllis, Don and Mr. Resetti, or Blathers and Celeste can’t be together. Families don’t have to be with each other!
