Word siddi is corruption of the word syedi or syed. In 1440, Sultan Nasiruddin Shah of Bengal (capital was city of Gour) recruited 40 thousand African soldiers for his army. But it did not work out, after a coup d'etat, four Africans ruled Bengal for 4 years. Finally local Hindu and Muslims united against the Africans and under the leadership of Sultan Alauddin Hossain Shah (whose mother was a Brahmin and father was Muslim) defeated African soldiers in a war that lasted for a month.. Alauddin Hossain Shah expelled the African soldiers from Bengal. They were ordered out of Bengal -- many fled and disappeared in rural areas. Large number of them left for Gujarat to catch a ship to go back to Africa. Virtually none of them could go back to Africa -- they were scattered all over Western India and Pakistan. Siddis are descendents of the Africans who were expelled from Bengal. Read free: www.amazon.com/Africans-who-ruled-India-immigration-ebook/dp/B00OGNOXM8
