There is a monument to Wallenburg in Los Angeles. Corner of Fairfax and Beverly, a very Jewish neighborhood (around the corner from the famous Diamond Bakery, a traditional Jewish bakery owned/run by Holocaust survivors), a small cutout statue on a plinth. IMO he deserves more, it doesn't tell his story almost at all, but im glad he has _something_ to mark his heroism

My grandfather was a Hungarian Jew in Budapest as a young boy during WWII. I never met him. He died shortly before I was born. It's odd to think that there is a good chance he was saved by Wallenberg in one way or another and I have never heard the man's name. I am deeply grateful to hear this story. Thank you

There was an NBC television mini-series about him back in the 1980s. Richard Chamberlain played Mr. Wallenberg. Network television used to have some quality programming.

Wallenberg has been one of my heroes since I first stumbled across his story in 8th grade. Absolutely incomparable hero.

I will say though there was a lot of calculation on the part of Raoul and his compatriots as well as luck. Bribing was something people tried to do throughout the war and was the only way many lived. Raoul would often try the bribing and negotiating while Per Anger, another diplomat, would be the ambassador who followed the rules and Raoul was the one who bent them. But they worked hand in hand. And the the passes didn’t just work because of blindly following orders. It was mostly due to Germany’s precarious political situation at the end of the war, as well as reading and language barriers for the Hungarian and German soldiers. I assume Eichmann called Raoul that because he was “working FOR” Jewish people, he called him this and said he would Lol him in front of an international Red Cross worker who reported him I believe lol. He did try to kill him and he got a slap on the wrist. And Raoul met with Eichmann to try to convince him, along with many others like that general, to STOP since it was the end of the war. (Per Anger vouched for this and said it was part of their strategy.) Ofc well that didn’t work but he still helped saved Budapest’s Jewish community. Because it did work with various other officers. Anyway complicated time of the war so pretty good summary of a lot of info lol.

And definitely more than that poser Charles XII and his army. It feels like Wallenberg was kind of an anti-Charles XII, in a sense.

The fact that he isn't a household name is a crime.
