After suffering a family tragedy, Barbara began hoarding her possessions...
69 year-old Barbara's life began unravelling following the untimely loss of her son. She began not to care about the items piling up around inside her house. Before long she became a prisoner in her own home.
1 in 20 people have a problem with hoarding - the extreme compulsion to stockpile items or not throw things away.
Our dedicated team are here to dig people out from being trapped in their own homes.

So sad. It seems that depression and loss is a huge factor in most cases.

I was so tidy too until I lost my son at 20 ❤ I never understood hoarding until I seen grief in itself is overwhelming

I feel bad for Barbara, losing her son and then not even having time to grieve cause she was looking after her husband, then losing him too. Hope this is a fresh start for her.

Twenty years is too much to be stuck in grieving. The pain will never disappear, but she is still alive and needs to keep going in a healthy way.

I felt a lot of sympathy for Barbara at first. But when she started getting angry at losing stuff she plainly didn't need, she turned into just another hoarder with mental issues. Am glad that her de-cluttering was, so far, a success.

They act so shocked lol. I've seen much worse on some other hoarding shows. Stop gasping and get started, it is what you do after all!

There's no cure for hoarding. My grandmother was a hoarder, had to go to a mental hospital in the end, she was sleeping in her own shit. Before anyone comments why didnt we help her, my mother was her only child and estranged from her mother, she lived in the UK and we live in Australia.

One thing that shouldn't be done is to get rid of things without the owners agreeing. Hopefully, we all get to the point we finally get rid of so many things we never really use or want. I am selling a lot of things or giving away many items. It is my choice and that makes a difference.

It's hard to know what's trash if it's literally garbage and suddenly it's seen as treasure as an excuse to avoid throwing anything away

At least this house is not even a fraction of a mess as some of the other houses, which the ladies have been to. There are actual paths, to get from one place to the other. I have managed to get some control, so people would not guess it. (I do have two buildings, the house proper and a cottage.) Still really difficult to control myself. Try to limit it to canned good, I'm fine if we have another Great Depression or WWIII.

Is there not a "donate pile" ??
@KathrynTanner-t8f
@KathrynTanner-t8f Ай бұрын
Donated stuff usually winds up in a thrift store, where it is usually picked up by another hoarder. I'm not convinced that "donating" is the virtue we want to think it is.

Helen....there probably was a donate section, however, there was a lot of video footage not aired in this shortened clip. They just put up the highly focused, edited version.

@@tinkingtinking2134 She had a bunch of stuff unused and still in boxes. I'm sure many people would be happy to have some of it. I've also had many friends and family that have lost nearly everything in natural disasters in the past few years. The hanging clothes looked clean. She probably had some really nice items.
