I have the turbo vado 3.0 IGH and it's fucking dope. It has almost all of the same hardware as this bike just with the different geometry. The 50nM motor and 500 wH battery is more than enough for my 16mile round trip daily commute with a fair amount of hills. I charge it every 3 days.

I gotta give you props for staying patient with the folks who show up in every video to complain about the price. Yes- direct delivery bikes cost less. But look at RadPowerBikes- they're one of the best regarded DTC bikes but they have RadCity 5 controllers self destructing at an alarming rate and RadWagon tires exploding. If this bike is a toy, or a project, or not carrying your kids- buy a DTC or build your own bike and have a blast! If you want to get somewhere reliability and have a service network to help you when things go wrong- you're going to pay more. Side note; the average new car is $48k, that buys over 12 of these bikes.

Love my Como !! I have the regular (not IGH) and really, really enjoy it. The step thru was required due to hip issues, and I have no problems getting on/off. The bike is so solid - everything is really well built. The bike is also very quiet - super tires. Gear changes are quick and smooth, and the brakes are great. Having the electric assist, and the step-thru frame, has allowed me to bike again (age 67 with multiple health issues) This bike is perfect for me and while it may not be the model for you, Specialized bikes are such high quality, find a model that works for you. Battery holds its charge really well too. (Due to crappy weather, I didn't ride for 2 months. When I got back on, the battery was still at 71% . It was 79%)The app is good and has always worked. I got a short cable so I can charge my phone while I ride. (There are phone holders that strap on, as opposed to clamping, so the odd shape of the bars isn't a deal breaker.) Being able to set your own power levels is great too - set it very conservatively when I first got it but have now adjusted since I'm a more adept rider now. Honestly, there is nothing I don't like on this bike. Way to go, Specialized!!

Recently bought the SL Como at a substantial discount and I’m surprised how many wires are sticking out on this model - I love that my bike e-bike capabilities are not super obvious. I think DOST launched the CVT version, maybe they are just out of stock temporarily? Their Class 3, throttle, and dual battery setup are very unique in the ebike world. I feel like this Como is more refined, but also less "open source" for the handlebar adjustment or battery repacking.

I just test-rode a Como 5.0 at our local bike shop. It was awesome, though beyond my price range (it is what they had built up for test rides). The motor was absolutely silent, no whining sound at all like the one you rode in this video. It had the standard rear sprocket and chain drive instead of the belt drive. Why the difference in motor noise? Is the difference due to the more powerful motor of the 5.0 or is it the difference between the belt drive and standard drive? I might be interested in ordering one in the future, perhaps a 4.0 if I can come up with the money. The belt drive sounds a lot more attractive to me, if it is quiet. Thanks, your reviews are great!

Thanks for another great informative video. The Speciaized seems similar to the Gazelle Ultimate C380 I've been riding all summer. Your thoughts on side-by-side? I'm loving my Gazelle.... It did cost about $400 more
@ElectricBikeReview2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kip! Yeah, I like that ebike a lot. It's tough to beat the reliability of Bosch drive systems, and it has the CVT, Gates Belt, lights, rack, and fenders. Even the suspension fork, frame lock, and adjustable stem/handlebar are great. The headlight and battery charge port position are great on the Gazelle Ultimate C380 and I feel like it's a better comparison to the Specialized Turbo Vado, because it's a bit more active geometry. I see these groups of bikes as being "some of the best" and then it may come down to dealer proximity, color and style preference, and if you prefer the reliability of Bosch or smooth Brose with the Specialized app. If your Gazelle came with the Purion display, you might not be able to use the Bosch apps without upgrading to a Kiox or Nyon.

@ElectricBikeReview2 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I didn't catch that, thanks for bringing it up Ulster. Perhaps "Ground Control Geometry" means the bottom bracket is farther forward, due to a steeper seat tube angle. Or maybe, the bottom bracket is just lower to the ground than if they used seat stays that were parallel to the ground. I can tell the frame is totally custom. What do you know about it? I did some Googling but didn't find an obvious answer.

@@ElectricBikeReview . I only know they use this term in some promotional material and one other reviewer mentioned it but didn’t elaborate. My dealer didn’t know about it and neither did Specialized U.K. 😀. My dealer assumes it has a more relaxed geometry with angle of the seat tube and now you have mentioned the bottom bracket. It is great finally seeing e-bikes with more up to date components and practical geometry. That front fender is amazing. It would be a little tough to get a proper fit with the rigid bars. Unfortunately, there just isn't any excuse for these straight gauge frames and those square tubes in the rear triangle. I will never understand why they include a very low end, heavy, energy robbing, suspension fork designed for off road control. Set soft enough to absorb pavement irregularities the darn thing would dip dangerously in a panic stop.

I believe Specialized has addressed concerns of previous models of the Como with the new models. Adding the suspension fork is a big improvement. I for one love the new proprietary handlebars. As for the Como SL, I wonder how well it sold. speaking for myself, why would I want half the battery - half the power for $4000. Also as far as being lighter, the Como SL is only a couple lbs. lighter than the previous Como 4.0 but with much less battery - power. JMHO I own 3 Como e bikes - the new 2022 Como 5.0, a 2021 Como 5.0 and a 2020 Como 4.0. The new 2022 Como is a little heavier probably because of the suspension fork but is more powerful/ more responsive in my experience. The new 2022 Como is much improved IMO

The bike has almost everything I’m looking for in a ebike….. but the handle bars are a big no no. Sorry Specialized no customer here.

It's not even a comparison. I'm building a custom ebike, specialized chisel mtb with bbshd and Samsung battery pack, all in 3500 out the door. Specialized doesn't even make an ebike that can match the specs and reliability of a custom build like this. If they did in today's market it would be 8-10k and they don't sell much in that range. And anyone can install the motor and battery doesn't take a gear head. I'll have 60mile range with a bit of peddling and above 30miles with all motor no peddle, top speed about 35-8mph on flats all motor no peddle, will climb any hill no peddle. The pre-made ebike market is insanely overpriced, bike shops will not build you a custom ebike like the one I'm building because they want you to grossly overpay for a pre made ebike. Once people find out how much they are overpaying cheap bikes with a motor and battery installed they pre-made ebike market will crash, enjoy the bubble while it lasts. And the mission control app is a joke, the bbshd allows you full optimization of the speed levels, you can customize the volts per peddle (9 levels) assist level to match your riding style.

It’s not a pedalac and practically an electric moped. Good for you. Enjoy the bike.

It's nice to have so many choices. For some people it might just be more convenient to buy a purpose built ebike with a good warranty and clean integration. There's a range of prices for these products, and the service that goes along, but the kits are fun alternatives. It's all good.

Do you ever review cheap $1500 bikes? I mean no way I'm riding something that cost almost 4 grand around. I don't understand how people are buying these things and then riding them in the rain and locking them up around town. I simply can't believe it and don't buy the hype that these things are commuter replacements. They are simply entertainment for rich white people leisure joy rides. There is no hope for bike shops especially since they only want to work on the bikes they sell. I think the box store chinese bikes and DIY kits are going to finally finish them off.

Why make an eBike discussion into a rich white set up? It’s any rich person not exclusive.

@@hawsrulebegin7768 true. At the time my mind frame was still thinking about the fact that New York City hipsters benefit mote from the lawthere more than Asian and Spanish working-class guys driving around on mopeds and scooters which are more restricted. But you're right I shouldn't generalize like that.
