The Specialized Turbo Creo SL Expert is a super-lightweight ~29lb full carbon electric road ebike, Class 3 speed-pedelec performance offers 28mph (45km/h) assisted speeds, proprietary Future Shock 2.0 steer tube suspension adds comfort while minimizing weight and maximizing rolling efficiency. Available in six frame sizes, sold through a vast network of dealers with professional fitting systems, solid two-year comprehensive warranty. The frame offers provisions for two bottle cages, fenders, and a rear rack. Boost hub spacing provides sturdier spoke bracing angle, 12mm thru-axles provide stiffness and control at speed, both wheels offer quick release systems for easy transport and ride maintenance. Powerful fast-cooling hydraulic disc brakes utilize 160mm Shimano ICE-Tech rotors that dissipate heat from stainless steel rotors through air-directing aluminum alloy cores and mount arm. The lightest and fastest electric road bike I've tested to date, the motor is surprisingly zippy and actually supports 28mph speeds without cutting prematurely, it fades out naturally and does not introduce pedal drag. The internal battery offers modest capacity but weighs under 4lbs and provides impressive range. Additional Range Extender bottle-shaped batteries are easy to use, quiet, and beautiful. Range Extender 160wh battery pack costs extra. Y-splitter cable to charge the main battery and Range Extender simultaneously also costs extra. These ebikes are fairly expensive in general. Since the primary battery is not easily removable, you may need to store the bike inside, away from extreme heat or cold, and near a charging port. No charging ports for aftermarket lights or the Mission Control smartphone app, only available in one color.

I'm fortunate enough to own one of these - the Creo SL Expert. It's a GREAT bike. Fast, nimble as a mountain goat, and totally stable. It's a two-wheeled scalpel. I typically ride it in eco mode, sometimes sport if I'm trying to beat some weather - the range is really remarkable. It was a big purchase for me, but I use it all the time and I'm so glad I bought it. If you'e in the market and waffling, pull the trigger. You won't regret it.

I bought the Turbo Creo SL Comp E5 - Aluminum frame, comes in at about 33 lbs. (Roughly 5 lbs more than the carbon version) and a $1k price difference? I love the bike. I just tuned 60 and gave it to myself as a B-day present. I'm still a good rider even at 60 and find the e-bike is great on group rides to pull the group into the wind and solo ride into a stiff headwind. (my roads are flat, but the wind makes up for hills and climbs). I find that I can turn power off (eco mode) downwind and still go 28-30 mph without a huge effort. The weight of the bike allows you to keep your speed when you get to the desired speed downwind. I noticed on even a 65 mile ride, I'm only using about 60 % of the battery. So this bike allows you to still ride normally on your own power. The assistance is great on hills and against stiff headwinds. It's made the windy days much more tolerable!

I bought a Comp Carbon Evo a couple of weeks ago (in the mint green livery) and my decision was partly made on this review. It’s an amazing bike and so much fun to ride. I’m 60 now and a long time cyclist but time has caught up with me in terms of my knees and back are shot but I didn’t want to stop cycling and this bike has given this old dog a new lease of life. The amount of watts consumed is matched by the smiles per miles 😎

Yesterday I went back and test rode the Expert EVO version. It was really hard to leave that bike at the store when I was done with it!!! I totally get your excitement with these. Never thought I could get this excited about a bicycle, but I was, and still am. Definitely on my sights for my next big purchase. The Specialized engineers knocked it out of the park. I don’t even know where they can take it from here. I found the handlebars suspension to be subtle, and I really didn’t feel a need for a seat post suspension at least where I rode, which was the alleys and parking lots behind the bike store - with plenty of bumps and pavement irregularities. And this thing is so light to pick up! So powerful, so light, so solid. A dream.

I purchased an Expert Evo a couple of weeks ago and have only ridden 350 miles due to some bad weather so I can give an interim report. I specified Specialized mudguards (52mm) and they work very well with no rattling or rubbing, an extender battery, the Garmin mount which fixes to the front of the headset and the Shimano wi-Fi which enables the Garmin to show what gear you are in. This piece of kit is fitted in the frame to offer weather protection. I had the shop move the DI2 charger plug from the right handle bar to the left so I could fix a mirror as in the UK we drive on the correct side of the road😍 I also managed to gain a discount!!!!! Just for good measure I have a Topeak DX rail system saddle bag as the biggest downside of this bike is you need to carry a heavy duty lock and it also facilitates the ability to take the charger with you The bike is a lot of money but if you want an electric road bike with DI2 that takes 38mm tyres with full mudguards and is made of carbon there is not a lot of choice I can’t say this is the best EV road bike but if it is not, perhaps you can tell me what is When you ride, I am unable to detect assistance other than I leave everybody behind and as the UK has 15.5 mile cap you can be riding very fast and when I look at the speedo I am doing 20+ and not even using assistance It is the first time I have ever had a dropper seat post and what great fun it is going down hill To date I have only used both batteries in tandem so it is difficult to work out the range but yesterday I rode 50 miles and has 35% left in each battery. I think I will try just the main battery tomorrow I am 65 and still reasonably capable but I was starting to “not enjoy” my 200 mile over 5 rides a week This bike has me waking up in the morning and feeling like child at Xmas If you can afford this bike, I would suggest you take advantage of Specialized “Hire for the weekend”

@mikesl1573
@mikesl1573 4 жыл бұрын
Daniel Allard I think you can get the assistance up to just below 17 by inputting a smaller wheel size but this needs to carried out on a computer connected to the bike. I have now ridden 1500 miles and I love the bike even more. I would say that the assistance is not needed after 17 mph as the bike does go very well without assistance after that speed and further to that I have very rarely used the max assistance, I mainly ride on middle assistance which gives a range of 53 miles and with the extender battery around 80 mile range is easily achievable. The best way forward if you are thinking of buying is to pay the £60 and have a demonstrator for the weekend I would add that I am carrying around 4kg extra weight by means of panniers, heavy duty chain lock, tools, tubeless puncture repair kit, loads of drink and food as this bike is also a fantastic tourer

@@ElectricBikeReview By the way, I did go look at this bike (no test ride yet), and the dealer told me that the "paddle shifters" are programmable on both sides! You can use the app to configure the paddle shifters to drop several gears at a time or whatever you want. There are 2 paddle shifters on both sides (despite no front deralleur), so that gives you a lot of flexibility with how you want to configure them. At least, that's what he told me.

I love my Turbo Creo, it has taken 10 years off my biking age. The price caused a huge anxiety attack but I am not sorry I bought it. I mostly use Sport mode and even turned all 3 settings down a bit from the factory support setting. Clyde the e-Beast rolls along wonderfully, handles gravel like a charm, and is very comfortable. I use the higher settings on the really steep hills and to catch up with my (younger) sister when she drops me.

Last week I test rode a Trubo Creo SL Expert and the newly released Creo aluminum version. Here's some of my thoughts after riding the two ebikes: 1. Both bikes felt like regular bikes, with the aluminum model's ride in the rear feeling noticeably more harsh than the carbon's ride. With the future shock both models felt great in the front. I'm a big fan of the future shock. 2. The added power on the flats and moderate hills was great, but on a very steep, short hill I wished for more power. Overall, I was disappointed in how little power the motor put out on steeper hills. 3. Speaking of hills, It was noticeably easier to go up the steep hill on the carbon bike. The aluminum's extra 3 or 4 pounds of weight could be felt, which surprised me. 4. Using the level button with thicker gloves was a real pain. It took multiple stabs at the button to get it to work each time I wanted to change the power level. I also didn't like having to take my hand off the bars to change the level. One time, when I reached over to change the power level, I hit some rough pavement, and the bike did a bit of a dance until I reached back and grabbed the bar to gain control. I'd love to see the power level button on the hood. 5. My test ride was on a windy day and I got hit by a gust of wind while riding the carbon bike, with the deeper carbon wheels down a long hill. The back end remained stable, but the front end went into a bit of a dance of its own for a few seconds. The last thing I wanted to do was crash this $10,000 (Canadian) bike!! Overall thoughts: I really like this bike and a applaud Specialized for building it. Having said that I wouldn't buy one in its present form. If Specialized offered this bike with a another level putting out more watts for the steeper hills I'd seriously consider buying one. The aluminum model, at $6,000 (Canadian) is a decent price, considering what you get. The SL is very nice, but I don't think it's $4,000 nicer.

I guess they are not built for higher grade climbing as they are road bikes unlike mountain bikes. But yeah I get your point you pay a shed load of cash for an ebike and it doesn't help you much when the hills start getting heavy lol There's always a trade off, I have a yamaha drive emtb and it eats any incline for breakfast but it's not great for high speed on the flats like your bike is. I wish we could have the best of both worlds. When it comes to ebike motors they are either geared towards speed or climbing... Like the bosch performance speed vs CX. Having said all this, I can still push 25 to 30mph (with some effort) on full assist on a flat using the gears correctly without too much head wind with my yam motor (I have mine chipped), But the job would be much easier with a bike like this specialised though.

@lazurm 4 жыл бұрын
Deacon Blues: The Creo SL Carbon Comp is $1,500 more than the aluminum version. Your thoughts are accurate except (in my opinion) for the very hilly part. Yes, if it's really steep you'll be riding in the lowest gear and even at full output you'll have to put in a good effort. Still, I found that producing around 200 watts of leg power (while pushing up a 15% grade with the total weight being 207 lbs) I was gladly going significantly faster than I would otherwise (8.5 mph as opposed to 3.5 mph). Sure, if the bike had more power I'd be going faster but, because of its use in over 98% of what I ride in I have no complaint. My typical "steep" hills are around 8-9%.

Seems extremely expensive, but there is a circumstance where I can imagine this making sense: If you want an ebike light enough to carry up and down stairs, but comfortable and powerful enough for a long-distance commute. Sure, for $9,000 you could have a pretty decent used car or motorcycle/scooter, but there are a lot of reasons you might not want to do that--higher carrying costs, worse for the environment, expensive and/or difficult parking arrangements.

Sweet! Yeah, I'd either go with the Kinekt carbon fiber suspension post or the Specialized Cobble Gobbler. The EVO models both come with X-Fusion Manic dropper posts, but they add weight and just aren't that necessary for the type of riding I do on road/gravel bikes. I discovered recently that the Limotech Jovial dropper post that BULLS is using, has a bit of suspension built in: electricbikereview.com/bulls/copperhead-evo-am-3/ so that's a cool option to consider too.

I applaud Specialized for their complete package, but it's doubtful I'd spring for any of the models with this new "lightweight" motor until some serious miles are put on it. The motor appears to have plastic/nylon gears, and though Specialized isn't the only one to do so, the motor is too new to know how often or how expensive and difficult it will be to repair. Ditto the battery pack, and Future Shock. I've had serious issues in the past with "proprietary" parts on bicycles, and they often become rare, expensive or unavailable in a short time. (Which is why I RIDE CAMPAGNOLO!).

Most ebike motors that use cogs, specifically only use plastic. Metal would wear out the overall motor faster and be much heavier. Anecdotally, I converted a Specialized Diverge road bike into an electric bike by replacing the crank with a BBSHD motor. The BBSHD has plastic cogs inside and that is running at 1500w (this is 240w). Had it for 2 years and almost 5500 miles and no issues. Your motor will be fine.

The price of the bottle battery is pretty ridiculous. If you look at the price of the cells inside it, they're making a huge mark-up. All e bikes are a bit of a rip off at the moment

I’m enjoying the bike so far kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

@@silverismybitchbackupthetr6812 How is it a poor alternative there is over 100000 people on Facebook on the forums who own a rad bike and I know a few friends of put in have put in around 14000 miles on their rad bikes in 2 years which is extremely impressive for an E bike that cost very little

A Rad bike and other very heavy E bikes have much larger batteries and torque. They will fly and are great for commuters who don't want to get too sweaty. These bikes are for enthusiasts who want a bit of help on long hard rides.

Isn't the market pretty small for a $9000 carbon lightweight (non-competition) road bike?...and even smaller for an e-bike version? Additionally, aren't there just too many proprietary parts and compromises for weight reduction?..... IMO, this is a "bragging rights" purchase.....needs dealer service and has difficult to remove battery and overall, just too many nitpicks......anyway if you buy this, you had better live in Cali or the southwest in general cuz I would never ride this in even mildly humid conditions...and you can never dismount or this bike would go bye-bye. That said, I am sure I would love to ride this bike but I think I would baby it so much that the only fun I would have would be to impress Rad and Sondors riders at my next e-bike klatch.

This guy sounds like a mountain biker testing a gravel/road bike and as a result cannot understand the concept. He seems to have read the spec. details which he cannot relate to what road/gravel riders want. He seems completely the wrong guy for this review. 👎🤓
