Cool video on one of my favourite species.Thanks. You are the wrong way round though about their classification. They used to be considered as Rasbora but have since been reclassified as a Danionins, hence "Danio Margaritatus". Can't believe how pricey they are over there. They cost £3.50 to £4.50 over here in the UK.

I rescued a single male from a local Petco. He was the only one left in the tank, he looked healthy, and I worried that he'd probably get sick and die if left there. They haven't gotten any more healthy CPDs in since unfortunately, but he's absolutely thriving in the heavily planted 29g.

Really good content, and good advice as always. With your breeding Tubs, when do you start removing the methylene blue? You started feeding infusoria but the water had changed.

Day 1-3 is methylene blue and each day adding the eggs, but then need time to hatch and become free-swimming in the tub before moving them to a 2ft tank. So still unsure, my thought is to do small water changes to dilute out the methylene blue.

Now trying to breed them, lets see how well it goes :) Will try to get some javamoos as recommended, currently using guppy grass and i dont see them going into it. I used 2 containers from tropica invitro plants and shouldnt be too high for them either.

I have been breeding CPD's in Canada for a few years and do it almost exactly the same way you do. However I add a piece of plastic canvas to the bottom of the spawning container suspended on a few marbles. The eggs drop right through and I don't get any predation.

I kept a group as a dither fish with a small betta sorority- they're so fast and gorgeous and fun to watch! Nice video. I have some experience with Danio's as well. I disagree on the minimum number of 6. They are definitely not happy in such a small group. I think you should keep them in groups of at least 15. With these numbers they are a lot more happy. Low numbers don't do the fish any good.

Try to have *at least* 50% water from the main tank into your breeding tank. Do water changes as needed also with the water from the main tank. Many people are telling that they lost many fries by adding new uncycled water. Then you top off the missing water in the main tank with tap. That's what I've read...

I have a group of 8 in a heavily planted 20g with other small community fish. I wasn't able to sex them at the store but for the first few weeks I figured out I had about 4 males, 4 females. Now a few months later, I am pretty sure that number is 5 males 3 females. It is definitely male heavy in the tank, and I doubt that is ideal since the males are absolutely bonkers, always showing off and sparring with each other. In my experience in a planted tank with a small group and other fish out and about they aren't shy at all. With the sex ratio I have they are far from that, and are the busiest and most active fish in the tank.

@nathananderton8546
@nathananderton8546 Жыл бұрын
Can I make a recommendation? They tend to be a shy quiet fish, so adding lots of widely spaced plant cover around the tank will increase confidence and encourage more activity. You didnt mention who they might be in we with but that is a factor as well. Also watch for high nitrates which can cause the same behavior.

@@didnthurt4077 They are mostly opportunistic middle feeders. They are a carnivorous specie so they prefer food that is moving (it triggers their hunting instinct). If the food is floating or goes to the bottom they are way less likely to go for it. These fish are very carefull, if they fear to go in some areas of your aquarium it's because they dont feel safe. It's counter intuitive for us humans to think that more hyding places = brave fish, but it's true.

10x30 per each=$300. Would want to be a spectacular fish. So many beautiful fish for half that price. Not all fish are ment for everyone and that's ok.

I think you got one of the facts flipped around. You said the CPD is actually a micro Rasbora. But really they were originally called a Rasbora and then later corrected to be called a danio as research was done that discovered they were actually danios. This of course doesn’t really matter, haha just a comment!

You mention feeding baby brine shrimp to fry quite often. I know you mentioned not having an issue with the shells, but was curious how the saltwater of the brine shrimp interacts with the fry. I didn't see you wash them, or remember you saying anything about the salt content. Would you say something in regards to the salt content of the water in relationship to the fry?
