I think you just proved that you don’t need to spend a fortune to make a great workbench. I’ve really enjoyed these builds so thanks

Thx. Enjoyed the vid. When my clothes airer broke, as they so often do. I kept the rods/wire from it. Then, I just used pliers to bend it to whatever sized and shaped hooks I need. Old, unused cutlery, like spoons or forks make great, strong, hooks. For when you need something a little stronger or more customised.

Awesome upgrades! Another thing that I added to my workbench is a 12" magnet. I attached mine to the side of the bench so that while I'm working. Instead of sitting a tool down on the bench top where it will be in the way, a min later. I can stick the tool on that magnet where the handle of the tools sticks up for easy access. Then once I finish the project I put the tools back in that tools home. Anyhow nice work. Take it easy. And I can't wait for part two..

Tip: My local Home Depot has a cart in the lumber section with wood scraps marked down for next-to-nothing and I often find pieces for things like your workbench backing (a half-sheet of veneer panel, in my case). I recently got 30 pieces of 1x2s & 1x4s, 4-5 ft long each, total price was $2. I use these often, e.g. saw bench sleds.

Great ideas. Maybe a magnetic bar on the top rail would be good to temporarily hold spanners and screwdrivers whilst working?

Good stuff! I built a very large workbench with pegboard years ago and it's still pretty handy. I found that I didn't always use the full 2' x 4' area. With my next workbench I'm thinking of cutting it in to maybe 8" tall strips and alternating between that and a french cleat. Thanks for the video!

Great built with helpful upgrades. I only would have installed the back wheels protruding to the outside. First of all - the workbench will most likely be standing flush against a wall (most of the time - at least in my experience). So, the protruding wheels won't be in the way back there. Secondly, you can leave the lower shelf longer in the back, which would stop things from falling down behind your bench. Thirdly, with the bench flush against the wall, it will be very hard to reach the wheels to lower or raise the bench. And, lastly, you would only have to cut the notches on the front which would save you some work.

That is a great suggestion, along with some very good facts to back it up, thank you.

I'm building a bench and am definitely taking this video and comment into account. Really good idea, especially with the longer back shelf to catch fallen things. Simple and genius. Also a slightly higher lower shelf clears those casters anyways it looks like. Just better preplanning for that. Could even put a small vertical "fender" plywood on the side of the back wheel to really keep anything from getting under.

For my work bench which is still being built, I used a french cleat wall on the back. It also goes up much higher and then I installed overhead lighting and an infrared heater. (the heater idea is awesome). Then an oscillating fan on the corner for the hot summer months. On the backside I had the a couple of more individual french cleats. One area to hold my sharpening wheels, the top to hold my clamps, and a box to hold a couple of hanging drills. On the left side, I have a craft paper wheel, and on the right a power strip. What else can "we" add? need more ideas...thanks

Your sliding wood surfaces could use some paraffin wax rubbed on it. Just to make the sliding a bit easier and less noisy too.
