On the decline of the fishery, I truly think keeping the trawls and nets out of the nursery areas, which is basically from the inter-coastal to all inland waters, is the only answer to reviving flounder, reds, and specks, not to mention the grey trout, they are almost extinct. We have seen this play out in every state from Virginia to Texas. Why is North Carolina not done this yet? POLITICS! Every state that has done this, they have flourished with the rebound of every species! The shrimp trawls kill millions, if not billions of every species every year!! I have personally witnessed this on the water! Get on board NC!!! Great video Cap!!

Great video! Capt Bud's opening quote is some of the best fishing advice I've heard for the novice fisherman. "The biggest is just figure out why those fish are there. There's gotta be a reason. Could be a spot that holds a lot of bait...maybe it's a little bit deeper...but there's always gonna be a reason why they're there and if you can figure out the reason, and you can duplicate that, then the spots will just be endless at that point".

Holy smokes… where to start.. 1) To everyone on the boat .. nice job guys! Great day of fishing! Great info related to a number of topics. Appreciate the insight. 2) @halty… the quality of your videos is ridiculous! Excellent work! I feel like I’m watching a show from the outdoor channel or similar. Great shots from start to finish with good sound. Hats off to you sir! 3) I see Capt Bud was using Cashion rods, which are phenomenal rods. I have switched over to them exclusively and love every minute I fish with them. Did you get a chance to try one out? (Hopefully you got a chance to fish!). Maybe a video with the Cashion crew in Sanford with a tour of the facility. Great guys up there. 4) The spec limit… been hearing this tossed around for a while. I think he was spot on with thought on slot limits, to allow the breeders to live. I know the CCA was pushing the release over 20”, which I try to uphold.. will be honest here.. if the only fish I catch all day after coming down from Wake Forest area is slightly over 20.. it’s a keeper… but this goes to the thoughts on this vid about allowing a trophy over the slot.. which sounds similar to black drum. Thanks again for the great video !!

Great content...I really appreciate the teaching and tips provided. I've fished the New Bern area for 5yrs (live in the Raleigh NC area) Cpt. Bud is spot on. My target species were primarily Red's and Flounder. The regulations have pushed me to Trout. I've not had much success, never even caught a limit. I still have a blast though. New challenges. As Cpt. Bud mentioned, figuring out what, when, where, and why. This gives me hope.. I can't wait for my next trip.. I'll try some back creeks and hope for better luck. Thanks guys!!!

Great fishing trout... But I got to be honest when I was only 16 years old I filled 2 big coolers with 20 to 30 inch trout in Chesapeake bay near bouy # 9 with my father. That was 45 years ago. We must have caught at least 30 fish just swimming on the surface of the water in less than 2 hours.

One reason why there are more restrictions put on anglers is the over fishing, one of the reasons of overfishing is charter fishing, they have to catch limits, lay them out to show to get more people to charter, private anglers fish and catch trout that’s true, but not just about everyday like charters do, that and Netters are the issues

Nice video, I also agree with slot limit but I return all my fish. The thrill is in the hunt not the eat. What's your opinion on replacing the treble hooks with inline single ones on your PB lures?
@haltysalty7537 Жыл бұрын
I personally don't do it. Feel like I miss enough fish as it is😂. It no doubt is safer for the fish and furthers there chances of a safe release and survival. I believe safe handling and getting fish back in the water quickly is the key element.

Capt. please tell me what structure should I build to draw to my dock?
@haltysalty7537 Жыл бұрын
Good question and I'll ask the captain. My opinion, it takes alot of structure to hold bait fish which draws trout. Trout migrate with bait and therefor would be difficult to hold on a dock. Unfortunately those buggers won't stay put.

@haltysalty7537Ай бұрын
@@glennaycock6090 thanks for the comment. When the trout get stacked up in some of the popular winter creeks, rec anglers can knock a pretty good dent in them. Enough to hurt their numbers? Hard to know. I don't disagree.

Like the reg recommendations but there’s not a inshore fisherman in the state of NC that has any faith what so ever that DMF will do the right thing when it comes down to it.
@gushertz26962 жыл бұрын
You nailed it with the regulations. Government seems to think it OWNS the fish, instead of managing the public's fishery. When they start closing off all other species, it puts more pressure on the few remaining. Start regulating the commercial guys, and balance the fishery - works in FL, works in LA, works everywhere but here. NC is basically a communist state from a fisheries perspective. You have to have a license to fish, but you can't keep the government's fish because they are so busy selling them to the highest bidder.
@haltysalty75372 жыл бұрын
Thanks Gus. Unfortunately what appears to be poor management of resources has led us to the debacle we are in now, fighting to keep a single fish. I agree we could learn lessons from other states.
@popnshots91392 жыл бұрын
Facts! If we don’t somehow ban together to get significant attention on this, we may soon reach a point of no return. The one fish limit is spreading too quickly.. 1 red drum, 1 grey trout (which most that I have harvested have trematode parasites in the belly), 1 flounder… maybe one speckled in the future …. And three bluefish (who would have ever thought there would be a limit on blues???). Nonetheless, no matter the limits.. I’ll be out there , as there is nothing like a thump, a tight line and a bent rod shaking!
