Elvis Costello is really underrated ... He is one of the greatest talents around...

By who? Apart from all the records his sold over many years with a phenomenal body of work, Elvis Costello has won multiple awards in his career, including Grammy Awards in 1999 and 2020. In 2003, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Costello number 80 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Underrated? Hardly!

Just discovered this fantastic channel. Some of the greatest talents of our times - Springsteen, U2, The Police, James Taylor, Herbie Hancock! - being interviewed by a master songwriter who has been in the business since the late 70s, but is more interested in his guests than himself. He has a deep understanding and curiosity about making making music, and a gift for discussing it.

It's interesting hearing these songs played by Elvis and appreciating how good they are. It takes a truly great song writer like Elvis however to really point that out, artist to artist. U2, and in particular Bono, have received some very unfair media criticism over the years. I am not a card carrying fan as such, but I get a little annoyed at ill informed comments from some people I have spoken to over the years. I wonder whether their success offends some?

And yet, to this day, as an Irishman, it continues to bother me ever me so slightly (i.e. intensely) that Bono's worst / most persistent critics are his fellow countrymen. Go figure. Begrudgery, the Irish disease.I think we should be proud of him as an excellent ambassador for Ireland and Irish people (Edge too of course, Adam also but Larry might be a reticent on this front).

Songs of U2 is not only about humanity but there is there is also gospel there that the hope that Christ is in us (Colossians 1:27) and that hope produces joy and peace in believers through the power of the Spirit (Romans 12:12) these you can find in songs like: When Love comes to Town-->I was there when they crucified my Lord I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword I threw the dice when they pierced his side But I've seen love conquer the great divide

Whoa! Not their best performance of "Stay"....STILL, LOADS BETTER THAN MOST OF THE SO-CALLED "ARTISTS" ON THE RADIO IN THE LAST 10 YEARS! Stay has gotta be one of my fave all time U2 songs! I have listened to it on constant repeat several times driving home from work. Toronto rush hour traffic makes my 12 min drive over 1.5hrs almost every day. 1.5hrs of "Stay" helped me get through the pain in the neck drive every time (same with Beautiful Day). Bono sounded tired. His vox wasn't it's usual perfection, but I STILL love it! One of the best voxes of all time. Very underrated! That man has a set of pipes!!! He's up there with the upper echelon for sure: Plant, Mercury, Steve Perry, Steven Tyler, Costello, Axl, Dickenson, Ozzy, Dio, etc Even Edge was tired. Messes up the chord change at 29:03, but I STILL very much enjoyed the performance! I remember the first time hearing him sing. I couldn't believe it! Been so quiet back in those days, then starts singing and ends up being as talent a singer as he was a guitar player. Incredible! There's a vid of him playing songs solo...had to look again because he sounded just like Bono! Gotta find that again.

@@ElevenBravo LOL. Appleby? In-laws live just of that road. Because of the sad state of music now...I started listening to talk radio mostly. I do have mixed cd from years ago. Had Radiohead, Maiden, Eric Johnson, Slaughter, David Lee Roth solo years, etc.... Only one or 2 songs of each. Stay is the only U2 on it. There's have been times where I've put it on with the intention of listening to others but listened to it on endless repeat all the way home. Must have done it at least 10 times already! Was even worse when I got into a Jeff Buckley phase. Listened to morning but his Grace album on the morning drive AND on the way home for 8 months!!! I couldn't control myself! I had to eventually consciously try not to listen to it! Took 2 months of really trying till I was finally able to not pay it! But I digress.... Cheers M8!!!

Elvis produced 2 seasons of "Spectacle"; 2008 - 2009 and 2009 - 2010. Bono and Edge were the first show of the 2009 - 2010 series.

At least here in Europe, Simple Minds set more standards in the 1980s than U2 ever before. Everything about U2 is too big. Musically speaking, the Minds are much stronger than U2. They don't have to use video walls, etc. The last U2 tour was crap. They talked more than just playing music. Every political issue was mentioned. Some mayors are already concerned, if U2 comes to their city, a la: "Oh, what happened?"

Sorry but I'm going to strongly disagree with you here. U2 have 14 albums of brilliant songs including some very big hits such as Streets, With or Without You, One, Still Haven't Found and Beautiful Day. How many hits do Simple Minds have?

@@nickkabbabe1953 a lot. But thats the point. The big advantage U2 had were the critics. They liked them. But the most relevant advantage of U2, the fifth member, Paul Mc Guiness. U2 is a big marketing machine and still is. Musically they stopped in 1997 with POP. Simple Minds were relevant in the eighties, but with an more progressed sound than U2 ever had, on record or even live shows.

Goal Keeper Comparing two over the hill stadium acts is like splitting hairs. In the end, U2 have the far more consistent catalogue, and landmark JTree lp. It took Simple Minds to get to the top of the mountain a song they didn’t even write for a cornball teen movie ( guilty pleasures in both cases). A better argument would be very early U2 vs early Minds vs Big Country vs The Alarm

I love Simple Minds, more than U2...but to say that everything about U2 is too big compared to SM is a bit of a stretch. Simple Minds made an art form out of the big stadium sweeping anthems full of religious references and at times, an almost pompous performance
