Yes! Orchids date back I believe the oldest recordings of orchids date back 100 million years. So definitely prehistoric. Buttons was the star of the show. 🦎

Not sure what orchid you are referring too. We have orchids constantly blooming all year round in Florida. It all depends what blooms you are wanting to see and if they are in blooming season.

Yeah! It’s a Dendrobium harveyanum. It’s a species.

@@naturenel thanks. I already grow and know the den harveyanum. It's actually the big floofy cattleya right after the harveyanum. The harveyanum is lovely but not easy by the way. Lovely tour and if you do ever inherit the orchids promised to you, you have to pass them on to your new fan. We do need to encourage the younger generation, not just teaching them but giving them healthy specimens t start with. Like you always say don't trust 90% of stuff posted online. I hope you can pass on your wisdom to growers like her. The main hinderances in the hobby in my opinion are people trying to convince us that orchids need to be fed low. It's like advising someone to withhhold the light. By the time one reaslized this advice comes from people wanting to sabotage our success one has usually alreay lost a few orchids. But at the same time one cannot overfertilize of course, I have killed plants doing that too. It's just that these days people are convinced to feed 10x lower than the recommended dose - just to be safe. IT would be like giving 10x less light. People know giving 10x less light would not go well but when it comes to fertilziing people like to think its actually better. And then you get people that don't want others to do as well in judging contests and thus purposefully tell others "yeah sure feed weekly weakly" (snigger snigger). Anyway that is how I see it. But I know 90% of people see it exactly the other way round and think everyone online who "helps" them has their best interests at heart. I tried to tell Melissa. I feel I just ended up making her think I was the excentric orchid grower believing in consipary theories. We can all believe what we want but I know by now 90% of the information is bogus. New growers still have to figure that out. As new growers all we are bombarded with is the 90%. And pests on top. It's not the best of starts for the next generation. I really believe that. And its sad. Orchids are so easy really. Yet 90% of people fail growing them.
