Renault Twizy Buying Guide / Tips

After 3 years and 1 day of Renault Twizy ownership, over 3000 people asking questions and nearly 40 people offering to buy my Twizy. I thought I would do a video with some of the common things to know if you want to buy a Renault Twizy. One thing I forgot to mention is that if you want to tune a Renault Twizy, its easiest if you have one prior to 2016.

Hi mate, thanks for the great video! Do you have any suggestions on how to remove scratches from the twy-rain windows

A light abrasive polish might work, but not attempted scratch removal on plastic for a while. If its small scratch, I have used something called Displex to remove scratches from phone screens, which might be worth a look.

Just scrolled your entire video catalogue to find your last video on the twizy. With the new way of working and everyone remote etc, beginning to resent my diesel for the short journeys I make now and considering buying a second hand twizy to cover my bad weather driving. I already have a VFR800 VTEC for longer journeys if necessary, but thinking of downsizing the car to a twizy, ami kinda thing. Do you think it's worthwhile getting a 2nd hand twizy in 2023? Or was it enough of a pain that really opting for something like a leaf or similar small car vs quadricycle is worth considering?

The only negative about the Twizy was the relatively limited range, but aside from that I loved it. If it wasn't for the fact I had two kids to take on school runs and needed the driveway space I would have kept it.

I was surprised to find out the doors don’t lock and the only way to open them is from the inside

Yeah, but you have to remember doors are not standard, so its an after thought in a way :D

I have only just discoverd & fallen in love with these cute lil cars. Do u have to have a full drivers license to drive these or are they the same as a motor bike? I am totally confused about this battery lark I don't get why if u have bought the car why do u have to lease a battery?

Depends on the country, here in the UK you need a full drivers license to drive one. The battery lease was a think Renault and Nissan did in many countries in Europe, and the Twizy was one of those cars to have this. Renault do now let you buy the battery off of them.

Every video about the Twizy says the say thing about the corrosion on the back of the hazard switch. How long have Renault been making cars ? How is it possible they can't get hold of a better hazard switch, absolutely unbelievable 🙄

I think its because they use the same hazard switch from other cars, and these are not designed to be open to the elements. A little WD40 and mine was always fine.

Can confirm. Had same issue with a mk4 golf 130pd. Cost me like a fiver to buy a replacement switch online.

I don' think they are available new anymore, so you need to check out the 2nd hand car market.

As standard the battery in the Twizy is leased from Renault and you have to pay a monthly rental charge, however there are options for people to buy the battery from Renault to fully own it.

@@Nenmeu2 Depends on the age and mileage of the car from what I have seen. Some have been able to buy from as little as £400, others closer to £2,000.
