OH THE MEMORIES ! 25 years I took breakdown trucks to Yarmouth and Wisbech, the annual do at Ipswich and once to Weymouth (yes in Dorset ). Red Austin Champ, Red S2a Landrover, Humber 1 tonner, or small skip truck. That was me.

Nothing beats the Spedeworth Tuesday nights at Ringwood in the summers of the late 1970s, packed crowds, great racing, just brilliant, these tunes bring all those memories back. Who remembers Derek Warwick testing his Ralt RT1 during one such meeting ? Spedeworth, why on earth did you drop Ringwood ?

What a fantastic time capsule. Takes me back to watching the bangers and getting a beer in the Carousel Club in Aldershot. An underpass of the A331 is now right where the old stadium used to be.

I love all of these tunes it reminds me of the old white city stadium before it was demolished id race home from work ger dinner and rush down tonthe stadium before it started oh the great old days never to be repeated worst luck 😢

@ Terence Newell Billy Vaughn's version of 'A Swingin' Safari' was a cover. The original was composed and recorded by Bert Kaempfert. Also some of these theme tunes long pre-date the 1980s. I was a spectator at most of the events at both East Sussex tracks: Arlington Raceway and Cross-in-Hand. My home was just over a mile from the latter. I can clearly remember 'I was Kaiser Bill's Batman', and 'A Swingin' Safari' being played over the tannoy in the late 1960s and 'Mouldy Old Dough' in the early 1970s. In the lunch interval Spedeworth used to hold Production Car Lap Trials when members of the crowd got a chance to race around the track in their own cars to see who could record the fastest time. I still have the winners trophy I won at Arlington. I got to know many of the drivers from those days. Barry 'Leapy' Lee, George 'The Driver' Polley , Mick 'Duffy' Collard, Aubrey 'Foxy' Dance, Geoff Goddard, and more. I knew George best as, like me, he lived in East Sussex. When I moved to London I ended up in Wimbledon, a little over half a mile from the stadium at Plough Lane. A different era when the sport was much more family oriented and the drivers were far closer to their fan base. It was also much more rough and tumble than today's safety obsessed culture. It made for far more exciting racing. Mick's son Rob races in the BTCC. His grandson Ricky also raced in the BTCC and is currently competing in the Blancpain GT World Endurance series. George's daughter Jo competes in the UK MINI Challenge series.

Great memories of Aldershot next year will be 30 years where has that gone plus Wisbech and the great Wimbledon stadium which has gone but not forgotten
