I’m glad you say this is the way you play it. I think people get too caught up on playing it right to the lead in the album. Even Jimmy doesn’t play it the same as the album in concert. I play it mostly as you do, slightly different, but that’s rock ‘n roll. Good job teaching.

Geez Sped, talk about Whoppers, this solo is one helluva wham-bam and pop to the jaw! You describe Jimmy as being angular, and this one is absolutely an angular solo. It makes you take the solo bit by bit, and maintain a level of concentration and "hold on tight, this is a bumpy ride"! Super lesson Sped, you took it very patiently and spoke in a calming tone , while givin sage advice and reminders of other Zep tunes , etc. Gotta take this one in 3 stages as far as I see it. Once again , you gave a great tutorial. Peace brother.

actually, I can't even play the guitar except of the e minor chord...I play piano. But this video helped me a lot. I also try to cover, learn and play songs that aren't using or consisting of piano playing. Basically, I often cover guitar rock songs because I have the freedom to reinvent and jam the piece through because no one can say that it doesn't sound similar. I am learning In my Time Of Dying right now, and Black Dog as well, both are pure guitar songs. The problem is that I so can't rely really on notes, and also don't like to read them. so I look up such guitar tutorials to learn the song. Your videos are very helpful. Thanks!

5:57 I always played it 10 x10,10,10,10. It sounds more "junkier" to me :) But you need to hit that chord precise. Hard to explain but it's like ZZ-Top's Manic Mechanic intro chord. You just have to play around with it until you get it right. But that's just my two cents :) And yes, you grab that low E with your thumb.

I’ve got a Led Zeppelin lyric and chord songbook and it shows a slightly different way of playing the beginning part of the riff on the A and D strings as 0-2 3x, then 0-4 2x, then 02 1x then 0-5 1x. Instead of 0-4 3x then the 0-5. I play it like you play it but was curious which is the way Jimmy actually played it?
