Thank you for a very honest review Jenn, I don't think the Pro version is worth it at all when considering it's buying it on subscription at a pretty hefty price. After watching your review and learning for the first time it's a subscription service (which they hide away the fact from the buyer) I don't think I'd pay $63.5 even as a one-off lifetime payment for 2 decent voices. I was thinking of upgrading from the basic version to Pro but your review has made me change my mind. I am very grateful you pointed out the subscription thing or I could have missed it and bought it thinking it was a one-off payment, something I would guess thousands have done and will continue to do in the future it's disgraceful selling techniques by Speechelo. Thanks again.

That's what BitTorrent and crack software it's if I have virus or rent somewhere in it Wilhelm and that's what scanning software is all about you scan the ship before you activated and you can own sandbox programs do you know what that means is in a sandbox it can't do s*** until you say so and there's an application for that called sandboxie once you reading sandboxie it strapped it can't do nothing

these are Amazon Polly voices. Amazon polly has quite a few voices, but only a handful are good. they have standard and AI voices. I have listened to these voices on a bunch of YT advertisements, and they sound very realistic, but even the best ones don't sound right for some reason. I can't put my finger on why, but as good as they sound, the voices are not engaging to me. there's a really good British female voice, but I forget her name. for some reason, I have never heard anyone use her voice in video advertisements. if you're interested, I can go into more detail.

I bought into the basic version, only to discover that the 30 voices that come with the basic are blahhhh and to get really GOOD speech (like the ones you hear in the demos), you have to keep paying them money. None of this is really explained upfront, and there is no one-time-pay option. Personally, I think the whole thing is a scam. If they offered a one-time-payment, I'd maybe consider it. Also, from what I can tell, there hasn't been any real updates to the voices since I purchased it over a year ago. I'd suggest looking into other options by companies committed to continually improve their product.

Even the latest MS Word text to speech update sounds way more natural. And it's included with the subscription. I use the Australian female voice to proofread my work. It has the most natural sound I've head so far.

Jenn-Totally agree with you on this one as well! I, also, liked the first male voice that you tried after the female voice-it was an improvement but still not 100% there. Some of these voices might work if one was presenting a "matter of fact" type of speech/message but beyond that, they are very much lackluster and abrupt and I can't feel the excitement in their voice! If you want to report the news, then some of these voices might work but if you want to get people excited about a product, a life event, etc, then these voices just wouldn't do it-and certainly not for $47/3 months. Sorry Speechelo! Keep working on it and who knows maybe one of these days...P.S. Jenn- I was wondering if placing exclamation points at the end of the sentence might raise up the intensity level a bit? I really want to hear more excitement in these voices!!! 😀

Speechelo is OK, but only if you do a lot - a lot - of adjusting to your text (punctuation, double spacing, running words together, etc.). I use it on shorter voice overs, but MS's Azure is my favorite text-to-voice software. There's still some adjusting to do to the text with Azure, but it's all SSML - so you know exactly what you're adjusting, instead of just trial and error with Speechelo. Thanks for the video!

I definitely agree. Summer would have been good in 2006 as an alternative to Microsoft Anna but today doesn't cut the mustard. I think the goal for finding a good text to speech program is finding one where the voice is at the very least believable as a "robotic sounding real human" (where they sound robotic for a human but it's still assumed it's a real person speaking)

Speechelo pro it is pretty good...I got it when it was a one time fee...you should try other voices and find the right one for you...but for realistic voiceovers I can't fault Synthesis software

I would buy this even if it were $100 for the pro upgrade, but I don't rent software, but Jen is correct, the pro sounds the same. The Pro just has more voices. Revoicer standard is better and even has Canadian and Irish English!

I use Speechelo Standard. It's true, advertising and reality don't always match. Not all voices are well-suited. But here's a free pro tip: It can be a good idea to try out voices in other languages as well. I’ve had great success using the "Lora" voice (AI) for speaking German texts. She speaks practically accent-free German, even though she is listed under the "English US" category. Definitely a lucky find, but maybe someone else can find other speakers that also sound good.

I bought the Pro version. It has one AI voice (Lina), which I really like and use for my videos. I declined the $47 every 3 months. Then a new window opened offering me the programme for a one-time payment ($127). So no subscription, or did I misunderstand something and it is a subscription after all ? - I come from Germany.

You nailed it... and I saved the money I would have hated wasting. Thank you for the review. The original ad sounded pretty good. Almost had me. The Pro vs. standard upgrade makes good business sense... ie. leave something to justify the cost or why bother. But those voices you used, were just sad. And the $47 cost every 3 months is just not worth the cash. I most wanted to find out the maximum number of characters allowed per session. 20000 if I read the screen correctly. I'm a nurse that requires licensing review courses (CEUs) every 2 years. 30 hours worth. This was just a thought, to make the lessons portable and useful. I enjoy text, but prefer hearing a human voice. Enjoyed your review. Honest and helpful. You should have them add your voice...$$$ LOL Thanks again!!

What I immediatly didn't like about this software is that on their homepage they don't mention the pro version anywhere. Its only something you discover after buying the initial version. That's deceptive sales tactics for me. Add to that all the fake "discounts" and it just all looks shady. I've learned to just avoid companies like this. So thanks for this review before I even wasted time with this.

I use it for IVR prompts. No one is fooled by it but it's acceptable for phone menus. I don't know why anyone would use it for videos. Like others, I got it for a single payment during a promo. I'm pretty sure you can find links still that make it a one-time payment.

Its not a one time payment. Check your billing statement. I contacted them to inquire what i had a second charge and was told it is a one time now, then 47 every 3 months.

As a former Speechelo Pro user, I agree. I however thought that among the English, British voices, "Brooke" (the first one) did better than you gave her credit for. You didn't play her voice when going through the British voices which I found was a bit of a pity. I just listened to a voiceover I saved using her voice and I would say she is about on the same level as "Grace" from English, US. She sounds older though like a woman in her 40s or 50s. I'm by no means trying to persuade anybody to go Pro. I really am apalled by their deceptive advertising (I was one of the fools who didn't read the fine print about the recurring billing every three months).

But all the better voices are hidden behind the Pro paywall...and I didn't use it often enough to keep on with the abo. It was more of an experiment. I however recently thought about getting into Revoicer since it offers some quite good voices in the standard version already. I however am not thrilled about the impression that they are about as shady as the guys behind Spechelo...I actually wonder whether they are one and the same...

@@philippk2 If you don't use a T2V very often, it's probably worth employing a VO artist for when it's needed. I think these things are aimed at KZbin creators who either have crap voices or are churning stuff out too fast to care about the quality. TBH, some high-volume YT creators who do their own VO just shouldn't. Some have dreadful delivery because English is not their first language, others actually sound like T2V themselves!

If you switch Windows them to High Contrast Dark theem, will the colors switch to white text on black background also in Speachalo. Because I'm visually impaired and looking at the screen, it just looks like a blank white space to me and is unusable. If I can switch it to white text on black, instead of black on white, then I can use it just fine. To me, looking at any application window with a white background would be like you staring right into a white florscent bulb. I agree with you on the voices and pricing. I've heard much better voices with free online text to voice sample converters. These sound on par with Google Translate which is... free. I would use Alexa before I'd use these. Command: "Alexa, repeat after me". You can also change her voice first (@Alexa, change your voice.") , or have her translate on the fly. You just need a handy dandy recorder mic nearby or to plug into the output on her.

And none of them are particularly natural, so even though I got a free upgrade to a pro version, it's still not worth the money for the first version I got. I will ask for my money back, it is absolutely not worth it for me. It must be admitted that they have something going on, but they have to develop it properly, then speechelo can be really fun and good

It is not for me. I use text to speech as an editing step, where I hear errors in my writing that I have failed to see during visual editing. My short stories average 4000 words, and pro still only goes up to 2800 words. Sure, I could cut the stories into 2800 word pieces, but there are writing sites that offer text to speech with no word limits.

I have found that NextUps Text Aloud 4 is far superior to all these online text programs and Speechify is even better than Speechelo. I've tried them all. The voices are kind of expensive, especially Viona's Voices but nothing and no one can beat Viona's voices. Jennifer is my favorite. After installing anything you still need software like FX Sound Enhancement because Ivona's Voices are the ONLY voice that doesn't sound AI and FX Sound Enhancement can make it all even better.

Pro Tip: I paid for PRO - and asked for a refund with the parameter's of their business - instead of a refund - they offered PRO - FOR LIFE - WITH NO ADDITIONAL PAYMENT.. So I guess I paid $49.99 for a lifetime subscription. Somehow - I still feel ripped off - as they only have about 4 good voices that are usable.

For those who ask themselves if it has become any better. Short: No. I bought Pro today in hope for it to better now, since this Video is 2 Years old, unfortunately it hasn't improved. For me it was important to be a one time purchase, but all the "good" AI-Voice-Overs subscription based and honestly depending on how often you use it, it may be better that way
