Thank you, I'm a retired Home Health Aide, I work with the elderly, Strokes and Dementia. Everything you are doing with your clients I did with my patients. I had a Japanese woman that I work with I don't have a degree but Certified and you are right they need to know action words letting them know you are going to give them a bath or going outside. I'm hurt because I work with different people my son was diagnosed with Austin at 2 1/2 years and did get any help. Thanks again. Then my patients care book have the information about growth and development from birth to old age.

I get it perfectly my son has always been the fastest and best reader in his class from the time he was too but what I realized was although he could pronounce the words and was very good with the punctuation he didn't know anything meant so I had to go back and teach him along with the teachers at his school with the words mean and make sure he understood it

I am so glad you shared this video because I'm concern for my son who is almost 3 and has autism he is receiving speech and Aba therapy. I'm beginning to question whether or not his speech is actually helping him because all his speech pathologist does with him is play with him and talk about what I would consider non-functional language such as zoo animals, numbers, letters, and colors ( my son only has a 50 word vocabulary so there is room for growth in everyday vocabulary such as Apple, drink,cup,food bathtub, his sister's name) also I was looking through your videos and seeing the importance of the child looking at your face so they can learn how to properly position their mouth and this particular speech therapist is not doing that in fact most of the time my son is sitting in his lap on the floor and he's doing a first then and last type of setup, also I've begin recording how many words he says in a visit and it's approximately three words that he may say over and over again in a visit and it's something like ready, go, hi, bye nothing that's pushing him. Whereas with ABA therapy he is required to do much more. I'm wondering from a speech pathologist point of view is this what a speech pathologist is supposed to be doing, or is this speech pathologist wasting our time and money

Love this. I am working with a student who is just about three and has a pretty delayed expressive skills, his receptive is good. I honestly think because English is his fourth language ( yeah I know) with little exposure to it, he has to learn to articulate sounds that he's not used to hearing and doing. So this video gave me great ideas. Where did you get that ball pop up toy. He would love that!!

How long would you work with a 18 month old on each task?
@SpeechLanguageBeyond4 жыл бұрын
It is based on how quickly the child is able to master each task presented. The process of progression is not always black and white. Sometimes you may discover that you may need to breakdown certain skills while working on a task or that they may not be ready for the task presented so you may need to try another one. Just always follow the child’s lead whenever possible. Best of luck and thanks for watching. 😀

Will being a 30 month old bilingual cause an expressive language delay?
@SpeechLanguageBeyond7 жыл бұрын
It should not. To be sure, monitor the development of the primary language. If the child has a low expressive vocabulary, difficulty producing sounds, or combining words to form sentences in the primary language then you can look for delays to happen in the secondary language. If you have not noticed any delays in the primary language then acquiring a second language should not interrupt that process. I hope this helps!
