the fact that she asked the name of the cat first rather than the members...shows how adults around us can leave impressions in our mind which we end up following unknowingly...

Sighhh. Buckle up, we gonna be crying rivers with this series😢😢😢. Hearing the ED always hits hard during this episode.

God, 86's ED transitions are so, so tasty. And the taste is usually pain.

This episode is a heck of an emotional wringer. And I appreciate that you're embracing that hurt in your reaction videos. The one thing that always gets me about Laughing Fox's attack on Lena right there when it comes to names is this: She asked about the cat's name before she asked about the names of any of the 86. Fox's tirade I think is a heck of a reminder. At this point, Lena's still in love with the idea of being the (literal) white savior to the poor downtrodden Eighty Six, looking at them as an idea, a just cause to fight for, rather than specific, right there in that space and time people. That ending was what got me to sit up and take notice of this series, TBH. Lena's heart and intent is in a good place, but she's got, for lack of a better term, blind spots, in her perspective.

FYI, this context is somewhat lost in the translations. The part where Lena said "I'm sorry about Kirschblute." was actually "What happened to Kirschblute... that was unfortunate." in Japanese. Which is very insensitive and could be strongly implied that, in Lena's eyes, this was just another accident, another bad luck. Almost sounds like she refused to admit that Kaie's death was partly her fault and her responsibility as their Handler.

The one thing I ask is do not give up on watch 86, because one channel did give up on watching 86 and they never gave a reason why they stopped watching 86. Yes, it is emotional but this anime is a hidden gem and a passion project to the company A-1 Pictures. You're watch Part 1 of season 1 and there is a part 2 of season 1, but to me it is called 86 Season 2 but everyone is calling it 86 Season 1 Part 2. Watch part 2, No spoilers here, just that Part 2 (Season 2) is both emotional and also satisfaction. Thank you for watching and reacting to this Hidden Gem. 86 all the way!

Oh she knew about the names if she considers them as humans. In first years of service new recruits don't even have unit name/nickname, just unit 1, unit 2 etc.

Theo's breakdown here is phenomenal - it's an excellent dissection of what is so often wrong with White Liberalism and how it values the *aesthetics* and *ceremony* of kindness and politeness while uncomfortably glancing past or not even recognizing the underlying causes of structural oppression and harm. Theo forces Lena to acknowledge that even without ill intent and even in spite of her efforts to uphold her own morality she still sits as a piece of the machine that is grinding them all to death, and has numerous unconscious blind spots in her view of their humanity. I loved this series when I first saw it, and I love it even more with every second-hand re-watch through reactions like these, but seeing and hearing your perspective on it from what you've lived through really hits harder than ever. I sit here typing all this at the seat of the American empire, living a life of comfort at the cumulative end of the road paved by the British and US imperialism that *directly* led to the events you've had to live through, and I just, I don't know - I don't have the words. I am very grateful you are willing to share this with us.

Well…She didn’t know their names just because she did not even try to “ask” names. And she had asked name of that cat instead. That sucks.

Three episodes in and she's already shipping Lena and her discord boyfriend. Yeah, this episode is rough. But its also the episode that made me realize this show something special. 20 episodes and 12(?) light novels later and I still love it.
