Yeah. Probably metal gear got some inspiration from Speeds music. Just like Snake got inspiration from Snake Plissken (played by Kurt Russell) in the movie "Escape from New York" and "Escape from LA" . Makes me laugh how much the characters have in common to the point where Kurt Russell is pretty much Snake in Metal Gear. But Hideo Kojima has said that he took inspiration from Kurt Russell's portrayal of Snake Plissken when he made Snake in Metal Gear. Hideo tried to even get Kurt Russell to do Snakes voice at some point. Still pretty cool. You should watch the movies if you haven't already.

I don't think Metal Gear's soundtrack was necessarily 100% inspired by this movie. There's something special about the 1990's action movie music era. Most of the composers for movies back then seemed to rely on a lot of similar sounds. Pluck synths, strings, and the signature sound of that particular era: grungey, industrial sort of metal percussion. I can name a handful of movies (and games) that relied on similar sounds. A number of James Bond movies (and games) used it. In fact, the entire soundtrack for Goldeneye N64 feels very much just like the music here, only with a little less epic orchestral flair and a bit more of a "gamey" focus, like riffing guitars and such. Like I said before, the real signature sound of that era was in that grungey sort of industrial metal percussion. It's hard to describe but if you listen to any action movie or game soundtrack from the 90's, you'll hear it. I think this almost universal sound choice is thanks to the way how a lot of movies (and games) are scored. They use what's known as temp music. This is basically filler music, that someone else created (either from another movie or game) that's used as a placeholder during the production of a movie or development of a video game. It's basically music that is used to help producers and directors work with forming the flow and pacing of their scenes/levels. Once a particular style and sound is agreed on, a composer comes in to create an original score. This is a little less common in games, as most composers would play through a level and develop a soundtrack that goes along with it. In movies, that process is very difficult to achieve because the music used plays directly into how the cuts are placed and what shots are used where, etc. So temp music is almost a necessity to make a production cut come together. The problem with a lot of temp music is it results in soundtracks that end up sounding very similar, because a cut for a movie was synced with the temp music. So when the composer comes in, they're asked to create something that sounds just like the temp music, but not too similar so it's not infringing copyrights. I believe that, in the case of MGS and a number of other games of that era, it was just composers fitting with the "theme" of that time period. The MGS soundtrack pulled a lot of inspiration from a number of different movies and soundtracks.
