Mythbusters dedicated a whole episode to testing certain scenes in the movie. The sharp turn at high speed was accomplished by having the estimated weight in water barrels standing in for the passengers. The barrels were placed and secured on the right side, the same side where the passengers were during the turn. The turn was possible. The bus, operated via remote control, did not tip.

27:58 Fun Fact: The bus jump WAS actually performed...TWICE because the first jump looked "too perfect"... The way they did it was by having a little ramp to launch the bus, the jump was only about TEN feet instead of 50, and there was NO GAP in the road. The gap was painted in during post-production.

Another action movie from the 90s that you should check out is “The Rock” with Sean Connery
@Hapsard3 ай бұрын
Remember, the 90's movies that are suggested are the ones that have stood the test of time. There were stinkers, but they have disappeared from collective memory. On a different note, movies can have just so many "Oh, c'mon!" moments before devolving into silliness. The older Bond films are a master class in riding that line or falling off the edge. Jumping the bus was acceptable here, at least IMHO 😊. Great reaction. Fun movie. I'm thinking you can be excited to watch the others from the list. 👍 Oh, and there were two answers to your pop quiz - this and the Lake House (2006). Years later it was revealed through separate interviews that Reeves and Bullock both had crushes on each other after working together, but didn't realize the other felt the same.
@Galiant20103 ай бұрын
I think the jump is the one thing that really pushes the line. The speed the bus maintained through tight turns and ramming into things is what I put in the acceptable category. But even watching the jump scene the way they did it, it has such an unrealistic upward launch that I only tolerate it because the rest is so good lol. But I always cringe so hard that they kept the jump in when I see it.

So, Dennis Hopper, who played the bomber, was kind of a wacky but legendary character, on and off screen. This is a little more obscure, and probably isn't one of the top movies of his that you'd normally be suggested, but a personal favorite of mine that was my first real introduction to him when I was younger, but you should check out "Flashback"(1990), a sort of odd couple comedy/action with Kiefer Sutherland! Maybe not an iconic movie for most, but I guarantee you that it's still a good time!

This movie had a 60 (most have a 100, basically 1 page per minute) page screenplay. You can tell because the movie ends at 60 minutes and then they tag on the train. Which is just a repeat of the previous 20 minutes. The bus will crash because there's no road so speed up to jump the road... There's no train tracks so speed up and jump the tracks... If it's your first time then you can stop watching when the bus explodes...

During the 70's 55 MPH became the national standard max speed limit, at the time of this movie most states were just beginning to rise those limits and in busy towns most dropped 10 even on the highways. WV now is 70 on the highways and was 65 when this came out and KY is still 55. The oil embargo was the reason for that limit and later safety was an excuse to let it linger for a couple of decades. WV still in fact list 55 in law as the speed limit unless otherwise marked. I am not an expert on the process for all states but I used my own WV as the example. Some were faster or slower to change and in CA the environmental crazies likely held back the raises in speed because you burn more gas per mile as speed increases in a geometric curve up. 5 MPH more is often about the same cost per mile as low vs. high test gas. (High test is often cheaper per mile than low test) I do call them crazies because if you study most their plans beyond the surface they normally prove worse than the status quo. For an example there the Model T got 48 miles to the gallon and fails the parts per million on emissions standards but when adjusted for volume pollutes less than any production gas vehicle made today, most polluting more than twice the total pollution per mile. Likewise the EV's don't have emissions themselves but you consider the coal and gas burned to charge them and the energy loss between with transformers, charging the added weight 2-3X the equivalent and plus they are an environmental toxic waste site at end of life. With a solar top to help charge and extend range an EV or hybrid might start making since but until then they are even useless in many areas like my own WV in hills. With an engineering background I am surprised you were not informed on the old limits and the why's. My training was history from an engineering school with a dad that is an electrical engineer.
@MotoNomad3503 ай бұрын
Nice try. California was in fact one of the first states to raise speed limits to 65 once legally permitted to do so in 1987. West Virginia was not.

Jumping to survive a falling elevator is a myth. The elevator would be falling downwards so fast the tiny upwards thrust from jumping wouldn't make any practical difference eg falling down at 20 mps - jumping up at 0.5 = still dead, And that's assuming you could tell exactly when to jump.. 😂 . Best chance is to lay flat on the floor, That would spread the impact forces over the greatest area, Ie spread the load.. Still a miniscule chance though..
