I think you need one more paragliding training for your take off and landing...
@speedflying_kid
@speedflying_kid 4 жыл бұрын
Taking off and landing is more tricky with a speed wing compared to a paraglider. It takes many tries to get it right, and that's exactly what you see me doing during these flights ;)

How would you know if it's good advice if you are not experienced? A lot of very important things missed and even bad advice like landing on your ass.

@@jacobrenner4315 I said there was bad advice given *and* a lot of very important stuff was missed. And this is very much a sport where what you don't know will hurt you or kill you. So again I ask how can *you*, with your experience, judge if its good advice or not?

do you realize that in line 3 warmup you had a brake twist on the left and maybe on the right some kind of twist too

Yes you might be right! At this point in time I didn't know much about what I was doing and that a twisted riser is a problem. So better not do it the same way!

It was Axis Pulsar 12.5m. But I would advice to start with a bigger one maybe.

This is bad advice. Don't land on your ass. Your first flight shouldn't be "close to the ground" - Your glide rate is hard to judge and depends on the conditions. By flying close to the ground you have no safety margin if something goes wrong such as a gust of wind or a bit of turbulence. Flying high is not whats going to injure you, its colliding with the terrain that will hurt you. Proxy flying is something you should work up to. Get proper training first. A background paragliding or skydiving experience before hand is, if not legally required, highly recommended.

I don't know about you but on my paragliding course we started on small, not steep hills where you get few seconds of air time and you do fly close to the ground because of that. I don't see a reason why this should be different when getting yourself under a smaller wing, I don't think flying off a cliff on a wing you never tried before is a better idea. However, I'm not a teacher and this video is not supposed to be a speedflying tutorial, so if you have better ideas, please enlighten us.

@@speedflying_kid it's true you don't want to "jump off a cliff" for your first flight but that's not because of the height - it's because launching over a sheer cliff no matter how high or low can be deceptively technical, committing and unforgiving - Steeper cliffs throw more rotor and the air flows very differently near the edge of the cliff vs even a few meters back from the edge. If you have the requisite background in paragliding or skydiving you should already be comfortable with heights and understand that the more clearance between yourself and obstacles and terrain, the better. *Proxy flying is an advanced skill* When learning to speed fly give yourself the best chance at not ending up in a wheelchair or worse by 1) Have the proper training before starting. Be experienced landing paragliders and or sky diving canopies *on your feet* unless you are trying to break your tailbone. 2) Get proper training when starting speed flying. Don't do it on your own. Get advice from local experienced speed wing pilots about how and where to start and what equipment to start on. Have someone watch your technique and critique you. 3) Have the right equipment - a easy beginner wing with good launch and landing characteristics and a harness with an airbag/back protection 4) Have a flying site with and easy launch - ideally on slope that rolls off gently at first becoming steeper after launch (so that you get clear of the terrain faster after launch). No cliffs or sharp edges that will throw rotor. 5) Easy landing - wide open space, flat, even level surface no obstacles in the way of setup / approach and plenty of margin for error in case of overshoot/undershoot. See my own channel for my first speed flights and notice the flying site. ~230m of elevation, gentle rolling launch that drops off further down and a big, flat level, landing field - a lot of open air and open space, a lot of margin for error. When you learned to paraglide you probably didn't have any flying experience and doing little bunny hops close to the ground on a big stable wing flying maybe 25-30km/h doesn't really translate to flying a speedwing close to the ground doing closer to 45-50km/h with much less glide ratio and stability.
