As a father to 4 children and not being financially well-equipped, you got my prayers (which you would get, even in case I could financially contribute). I think most, if not all here, will understand the gaps. Here’s to a healthy Maple and a wonderful 2024! ❤

Adam, first and foremost, I am sending my best wishes to you and your family in hopes that the entire medical process goes smoothly. You guys are pushing through and still standing, so massive props to you, Kelly, and Maple. Lastly, thank you for documenting your entire journey as it is a goal of mine this year to re-develop my double bass drumming. Keep at it and best of luck.

Love to see how much your mix, playing, cinematography, and instruction have improved throughout the years. I'm learning a lot from this as someone who's been playing double bass for 15 years. Congratulations to you and your wife. My thoughts go out to you guys.

Hand on the snare is definitely a weakness in balance. It’s an issue that can be corrected with proper seat height, distance from the pedals, and good posture. 🤘
@cHr22o7 Жыл бұрын
Hey, in regards to the balance issue if your arms are too far out to one side: consider to setup you drums in a more symmetric way. This is what i found out alot of well known and skilled double kick drummers do and at the beginning i thought its just their style. But it helps sitting straight up and you can reach everything you need. Bring those cymbals more in front of you especially the chinas for the break downs. I have even my tom toms both setup infront of my snare, so i can bring in my ride, followed up by crashes/chinas on my right side.

Prayers for you an the family. I am no stranger to having a newborn in need of surgery, it can be a very scary time. Hopefully you have a strong support system of friends and family to walk with you during this time. Stay positive, keep your focus on the family and especially being a rock for the Mrs during this time, and keep that head up. You guys will make it through this and have an amazing story to tell on the other side of things.

Sending positive energy to you and your family and praying for your little girl to be happy & healthy. About "balance" - a long time ago I remember reading something from Tommy Aldridge about this very topic concerning double bass playing and one of the tips was to practice working around the whole kit with both feet off of the floor. A tendency of mine (& I'm sure a lot of drummers when they were just starting out) was to keep your hi-hat foot planted for stability. When I started playing double bass, I was having the same issue - after I read the T.A. piece, I started practicing the "feet off the floor" idea along with paying attention to posture and keeping my shoulders & hips centered. It took a while & seemed tedious playing a bunch of stuff with essentially no bass drum, but it made me more aware of your core positioning when reaching for any part of the kit and how to not rely on just planting a foot. Kinda one of those "wax on, wax off" moments that seemed pointless at the time, but built a skill that became very useful for later down the road. Your clips on this sounded great (as I knew they would) - can't wait to hear the song when it comes out.! Keep up the great work and all the best to you & your family!

In martial arts it's called being over your center; from the ground through the top of your head (center being chi). When your arms leave your center balance is challenged most. You've made great progress, Adam. Love your vids.

I really need to check out your yoga for drummers stuff. Since I started playing drums long ago, I often believed ergonomics, balance, posture, etc. greatly affect drummers. Not just taking care of oneself, but being able to adapt to different environments. All the best to you and the family. I know all too well the challenges and frustrations with the healthcare system, and the hurry up and wait approach. Stay positive, and keep moving forward.

Hi Adam ! Honestly, it’s been a while since I’ve checked your channel, but the production value is still awesome. As for your balance topic, allow me to share some advice I’ve come across / gotten from some drummers : Try sitting further back on your throne. Seriously, I once did a one on one lesson with Eugene from FleshGod Apocalypse, and he almost has his butt further back than the part you seat on ! This has seriously helped me better controlling and speeding up my anckle technique. Drum nerdy aside, keep strong and all best wishes for the coming year 🖤 Health first, VLOGS are pointless.

The balance issue can be fixed with better seat. I have Kai Hahto designed stool which is really thin and it looks like piano seat. It totally let your legs move freely and gives you the information if you lean in any direction and have helped me to sit in balance. I can feel my sitting bones and if I don't feel them in the seat I know I lean n,e,s,w and so I can correct how I sit. Problem with modern stools are they're too soft to feel your sitting bones.

I'm watching this a month after it came out so you're probably right square in the middle of the next chapter. Hoping all is well with your wife and the new arrival. I do hope she pulls through and that she gets the best care in Atlanta. Sending best thoughts and hope. I'm in the middle of being caregiver for my elderly mother after my dad passed away last May. It changes a person to stop a life in progress and dedicate yourself to the will of family. Peace, man. I hope everything goes well.

Hi Adam hope all is well with you and your family, for me balancing seems easier when playing metal with my cymbals medium high level. I like to have my arms tucked into my body and be able to make as minimal movement as possible so I can reach my destination quicker. Not saying pull the cymbals in to close to you but lower them. But when I play more slower things I tend to want to raise my cymbals and flail my arms more and have more feeling and groove such as using ghost notes. But I tend to favor medium high cymbals. Just my two cents. Hope anything if anything helps best of luck Adam.

I wish you and your family the best! I recently bought a second(practice) set for my house. At the time i had a limited budget and didn't spend much on the throne. Long story short I've been playing db for over 20 yrs on a roc-n-soc throne. With the new(much cheaper) throne i had a lot of balancing issues. Maybe the answer is something w a wider seat and, for lack of a better term, a butt groove.

Adaaaam! I've asked my friend who studied drums in school why some drummers put their hands on the head sometimes a long time ago. Because I wasn't sure if I'm not doing something I should be doing because I see another local metalcore drummer friend who does that. My initial thought was they do that to mute the drum they dont want to be ringing much right away or that it was visually cool. Maybe that was also an intention but I never have thought it was for balance. He told me it wasn't necessary because you can just use a dampener if you really need to omit some of the overtones out. You've somewhat answered it!

I’ve owned one and hated it. There’s a reason 99% of drummers don’t use backrests my friend. If you physically need one due to injury or other back problems, that’s one thing. But it most certainly will not assist a double bass balance issue.
