one of my favorite cars to drive. Worked at pontiac from 86 to 98 and loved the 6000 STE. Great handling, lots of gadgets, reliable, nice exhaust noise, great seats and other features that couldnt be found on a chevy or buick.

My first car was a 6000 STE, complete with the space-age, fighter-jet digital dash. I LOVED that car.. still remember it fondly from time to time.

I remember when my parents brought home our ‘85 STE. My Dad was so stoked. It was one of the first I drove when I got my license too. Excellent sedan for the time. Often tested against the Audi 5000 and BMW 528 and always faired well.

The 6000 STE was a damn nice vehicle, and well reviewed in a time when American cars were seldom well reviewed.

I had a 6000 in the 80s. Loved it! It struck me at the time as being luxurious and even futuristic. It seemed like it had significantly more horsepower than 125 HP though so I can't figure that one out. A nice throaty sound when I stepped on the gas. Ah memories....

For clarification, only the STE model specifically received the acclaim mentioned here. Not the entire 6000 line. I remember it well because I wound up buying a brand new 1985 6000STE based on all the hype. Good car with cool features like automatic load leveling and a rear-deck air compressor which allowed you to fill your (or a friend's) tires wherever you were.

Purchase a 1986 Pontiac 6000 brand new had it for 6 months and it blew a head gasket, it was under warranty so fixed no cost a year later it happened again, they fixed it again for free , two months later happened again! I treaded it in for a Toyota Camry never had any issues with that car and I owned it for 13 years!

When I grew up my grand parents who raised me owned two, an 86 or 87 base model with a V6. And a 89 SE model. I got my hands on a 89 Le base model with the iron duke and only luxury it had was Ac. But it's been bypassed so yeah... I'll be fixing it soon, I want to save it as a reminder of my childhood. But damn did these cars share common problems that bring back memories. Like fallen off rearview mirror. Broken truck release replaced with close hanger. Falling down headliner. And I could go on haha

I clicked this actually expecting a spoof video making fun of the car. I have a 1985 6000 STE and you're certainly kind toward it. Most people have no idea what it is or think it's boring. I put it in a car show 10 years ago and got laughed at. I'd do it more often if the car was currently roadworthy. Going to have to try to remedy that sooner or later. By the way, the blue STE pictured on the Pontiac 6000 Wiki page is mine.

I currently own a 86 ste. Parts for it are super scarce. Thanks for the video and keeping pontiac "alive" so to say.

My grandmother had an 86 model. It was a few years old when she got it. I remember being so proud of that car. It looked up to date and had a powerful engine. The interior was nice as well. It was one of the first truly nice cars that she purchased. I ended up hitting like a group of deer in it.

I rear-ended someone a block away from my home in my parent's 86 STE. This was in 1993. Ended up replacing some of the trim with the LE version. Never looked right after that.

My first car was an 88 6000 STE. I never thought of it as either an enthusiast's car or a luxury car. I liked it though. I had what I'm guessing was a rare 5 speed in it.

I have a 1990 Pontiac 6000 se all wheel drive even more rare disc brakes all the way around air leveling in rear a diff lock abs and the engine was original untill it was borred to a 3.4 still runs new and has 160,000 miles have not come across another only front wheel drive models Whats even more rare is the tie rod mount on the rear suspension the shocks were built like a front shock and rumor had it Pontiac wanted to make the rear tires turn like the front the transmission is like a thm125c for a Chevy celebrity 1989 but has an output shaft and the rear axle is like one off a 1994 Chevy s10 blazer not much info as the driveline but of anyone has any info on part # for rear shocks or driveshaft please reply on this message

Rear shocks NOS completely unavailable. I searched the USA several times. Take a pair of air strut replacements from a Bonneville along with your bad STE pair to a fabricator and for $1k you will have a good set.
