Speed Queen Washer and Wringer

Glory to God, He has given you wisdom to fix things. My grandmother had an old wringer washer in her basement. Cleaned clothes much better than these modern machines.

Be sure to keep it in a tint of it's own or keep it covered with a tarp because if it's exposed to the elements it will shorten the life of the washer a very great deal I bought me one and learned the hard way. The cold in the winter damaged the gears in mine and it made my wringer rollers dry rot and start cracking with big deep cracks in it and the rain and humidity made it start rusting very much and the motor underneath started rusting and it seized up and parts for these washers can be hard to get and very pricey.. I had to throw mine away but found me another one with no rust and good running conditions but I keep it inside my house in my laundry room lol I'm not going to put this one outside.

Oh no! I’m so sorry about your first washer. Glad you were able to get another one. Yes, we actually moved in inside the garage last week. I was wondering how the weather would affect it. I bet winters are hard on them. Thanx for the tips! Have a blessed day!

Yea the heat isn't as hard on it but rain is and especially the winter if you live where it gets cold the cold freezes up the gears and hardens the grease on the gears. Mine is a Maytag brand but I've heard that the speed queens are very good too lol y'all's is just as nice looking as mine. The old ones like this washes cloths a whole lot better than the new ones they have nowadays that's for sure. I got rid of my new 2020 washer it was not washing clothes good at all. I feel like I wasted my money on that new nowadays washer lol for what it was worth it should have washed my clothes to perfection.. lol it's a shame that the 70 year old washer I got out washed the modern washer. Lol.

Awesome and hands on repair vid .to tighten wringer rollers ,lift up top wringer ,there are 4 screws turn clock wise to tighten. Thanks for sharing , looking forward to next washday vid.

I have the same washer, however on the metal part that the agitator sits on the top part does not turn, it just squeaks horribly. Any ideas how to get it loose? Love your video.

I liked this video and I don't want to complain. But there were many instances when I cringed. The first was Mr. Dalton needs to use rubber gloves when using the brake cleaner, which is a pretty strong solvent. He should have been wearing leather gloves in case the spinning wire brush hit his hand and when he was cutting the gasket. I was also concerned when Dalton Jr. put his fingers close to the wringer. But no harm no foul. I just picked up one of these but I think it is from the 1950s. I am going to refurbish it so this video was very informative.

Dea Dalton Gang Thank you for this. I have almost the same machine and I am going to try to fix it myself. I am a 70 yr old woman but I think with the help of your video, I can try to fix it. I am stuggling on how to get the agitator off and how do I replace the old grease under the rollers section is removed. Do you have a facebook page?

The agitator comes off by unscrewing the top and lifting the agitator up below it is a strainer with bolts in it if you take them off yo can remove the tub. You will have to make some gaskets when you put it back together though I just made some with silicone gasket maker. What is your Facebook?

@@daltongangoffgrid9376 Thank you very much for responding to me. I was able to get the outside agitator off but at 19:36 in your video your holding the inside one. I got it lose so I can lift it out of the tub but something must be holding it in place from the inside . Do I have to crawl underneath and up to unscrew what ever is holding it? Thanks I wish I could send you a photo of it.

I got this exact same washer but it has Montgomery Ward on the label instead of Speed Queen.

At 10:41 do you need a gasket underneath the tub also or just on top before you bolt the agitator down? Mine is the same washer and is leaking. Thank you for the video.

Yes there is a gasket I used a cork gasket and silicone.

@@jamesbird6052 yes exactly! You might check your seal around your pump also as ours leaked when we got it and I just used silicone on it!

Also there looks to be some type of tensioner near the belt - thumb screw with spring underneath. My issue is that it ran a while then started smoking - but it was leaking bad so I shut it down thinking smoke might have been from things getting wet underneath-
