It had the best plot! Lost brother, fighting corruption and the establishment. It emphasized the importance of family, and pride, while pointing out systemic issues we deal with everyday (money controlling everything despite appearances) And the rules were drive fast don’t get hit lol I will say they never explicitly focus on the exact rules of the races, but in actual cup races the only gadget he used were jacks, the rest of his arsenal was only deployed in the underground street race part where their escape bubbles were presumably disabled too.

In truth, if it comes from Japan. There are several dozen live action adaptations of animes out there. A lot of them really good. Personally not my kind of thing and I am just taking the word of third parties on this one. As for Western attempts to do it. Well, it is a mix bag....like uhm...Dragonballs movie...we do not talk about that one. Speed Racer is rather faithful to the bases of the Manga and Anime. And...uhm...I can't remember others -.-; Though, a lot more bad than good....

I think what makes this clip so entrancing is that it is almost reminiscent. The apparent lack of physics, the impossible speed he suddenly gains to overtake the other cars, the flips and stunts, the crashes and explosions; it as if a kid was playing with his Hot Wheels, and was racing his favorite car. Like its a child's racing fantasy brought to life, and it makes for something wholly cinematic.

I still think to this day this movie is among the greats. Great production value, plot, characters, and most of all the style. It is still unfortunate that it hasn't gotten the praise it deserves. Speed racer was so ahead of its time, it really makes me sad this movie doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. The Wachowskis have said before they would love to do another speed racer and in a perfect world they’d get the chance and maybe it’d even see success as anime has become more mainstream and something as over the top as speed racer could actually be appreciated. To bad I highly doubt any studio will green light the project because of speed racers poor success. This type of movie really deserves a second chance as In my eyes this movie especially the ending will forever be one of the greatest half hour of film ever put to screen.
