While waiting for this video to upload youtube told me to watch a video Daniel Schiffer made about Speed ramping almost 2 years ago. It has almost all the same info, but is half as long and twice as good. He's also significantly better on a skateboard. Might as well pin this comment lol.

Got y’all premiere pro users just right click your clips and select “enable time remapping” then make your clip taller till you see the line, and you can raise and lower that line to give more or less speed, hitting “p” will enable to pen tool and wit this you can add key frames where you want the amount of speed to change 🤙 Clicking & gragging a keyframe will split it in half and let you ease your speed for a smoother speed ramp!

No, no no! **Wags finger**. You MUST teach us how you hid that mic to capture your audio lol. That hallway shot at 1:27 had great audio for skateboarding down a hallway. Oh yeah, the rest of the video is awesome lol, no shade at all. Also, finally someone who did a really awesome job of fully focusing on Speed Ramping. A lot of youtubers have done a great job explaining, but the in-depth detail you dug into for this video makes a world of a difference in me "getting it." Oh, the Frozen 2 Travel Edit was HILARIOUS bro! Thanks again for making this vid.

I can’t remember exactly how I hid the lav mic in that shot (sometimes I tape it to my chest, sometimes I use a vampire clip to the inside of my shirt) I still haven’t found my ideal way of hiding it BUT I was also surprised at just how well the audio came out considering I was on a skateboard!

5:12 for the start of hands-on in FCPX (not that any Jesse content needs to be skipped - 💯 epic intro!). Excellent tutorial... just to be clear, grabbing the section's handles and dragging them in/out is what controls the actual ramping part of speed ramping, right? Is there a way to control the curve, or is the transition always linear across the duration of the 'handle'?
@JesseDriftwood4 жыл бұрын
It isn’t exactly clear what the curve is that fcpx uses (it isn’t linear, some sort of ease) but all you can adjust for now is how long that curve takes rather than the shape of it. I’d love more fine tuned control (like what you can do in premiere) in the future.
@MattJacques4 жыл бұрын
@@JesseDriftwood Aha! Thanks for clarifying... I thought the curve was a bit more nuanced than pure linear, but would totally be awesome to be able to control it a bit more. I'm just getting the hang of FCPX, coming over from Resolve. 💯 loving the transition so far.

Hey Jesse: Quick question,\: I noticed you said you shooting at 60fps. So when played back your "normal watching" is actually in slow motion. Then you speed clips up to normal or fast. Ive tried to slow down footage filmed at 30 fps and i start dropping frames around 75% and it comes out choppy. So is my thought process ,correctly i hope, that every thing is slowed down and filmed slow by half. then speed up. What happens to the audio back at normal watching speeds of 30fps?
@DylanKJohnson4 жыл бұрын
If I understand your question correctly, he has a 24fps timeline and when a 60fps clip is used the "extra frames" get dropped. However, when you want to slow down any footage you can only slow it down equal to what your timeline is before things get choppy. The chop comes from a lack of frames. In your example of a 30fps clip you can only slow it down to 80% before dropping frames. To find out the minimum speed you can make a clip just divide the frame rate of your timeline by the frame rate of the clip and you'll get the percentage you can slow that clip down (24/30=0.8 or 80%).

Is a video considered art? Yes? Then there’s no way you’re doing it wrong. Would you like to use your tools in a way to help enhance the story you tell? Yes. Then you’ve provided some great tips! But no ones doing it “wrong” lol
@JesseDriftwood4 жыл бұрын
I get what you’re saying, but if that’s the case I’m also not “wrong” to title a video this way, since I can call it art. BUT the point is there are lots of people who are making videos “wrong”. And by that I mean they aren’t achieving the look they want because they don’t know how to make it the way they want. If I wanted to make a painting purple, but didn’t realize what colours to mix in order to make it so, than my painting was done wrong if I mixed blue and yellow. Does that make sense?
