I love this idea. How many placemats can you make with one spool (or two colors twice as nice) of the 12 wt thread.

Hi Karen, I honestly don’t know how many placemat edges that spools of 12-wt. thread will cover, but it’s probably more than enough for a sizable dinner party! If you do a test, be sure to let us all know. But your question brings up a great tip. Whenever a project involves using specialty thread(s), be sure you have enough on hand before starting. Hi Darla, I used a double eye needle (or a bodkin) and tucked the thread tails into the stitching. Fray Check isn’t strong enough for thick threads. Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!

Use a bodkin or double-eye needle and feed the thread tails under the stitching on the back side. Fray Check isn't strong enough for thicker threads. Hope that helps and Merry Christmas!

Curious why a lot of people say use fusible fleece. Is there a reason related to the serger or can you use batting or something non fusible?

@@deidrapowell8762 hi Deidra, you can use a non-fusible batting. A fusible product is less likely to bunch up or shift while being stitched and doesn’t require as much pinning to secure it in place. Thanks for watching!

If you can adjust the tension settings on any serger, you can do the Twice as Nice Stitch. You will have to test your settings as they will probably be a bit different on various machines. If you need help, let me know. It's a lovely edge finish.
