Speed Test at Sea - Honwave T32 - Mariner 6hp - sib fishing uk - inflatable boat

I manage to hit a top speed of 14.4 knots at sea with the tide helping.
The 6hp Mariner 4 stroke got me up on the plane even in fairly choppy water.
Just me onboard with all my fishing gear.

I had a 6hp on my SIB bought it brand new in June , got rid of it after the 3rd outing they are very noisy , now running a 9.9 and it’s so much better plus boat planes instantly I’m running a 3D tender 300 V . Should’ve done my homework before purchasing the motor , single cylinder outboards will drive you insane with noise :) . Dig the videos , I’m in Gosport/portsmouth .

Hi, thanks for your comment! Yeah I went for the 6hp mostly for the smaller size and weight. I wanted it to fit in the back of my car and not break my back each time I carry it. You are right though, a 9.9 is probably the sweet spot for noise and getting up on plane instantly. Maybe I'll have to upgrade! 😄😅

@@inflatableangling I too at first was all about the weight and believe it or not this all fits in my VW Polo :) , the 6hp was 26kgs the 9.9 is around 36kgs it’s definitely a big difference to carry but found it was worth it . Thanks for the reply keep up the great videos .

Hi, check the trim, I have mine on the second hole from bottom. Weight distribution is important. I sit right in the middle and have my anchor bucket etc up front to help keep the bow down.

Maybe the transom wheels are still in the water? sit on the air floor , just in the middle of the boat

Hi Adam, I am in Southend on Sea. I just bought a 2.65 inflatable with 3.5 4-strokes motor. I was wondering if in your opinion the engine can handle the tide steam or I will be in trouble. Planning to go 1-2 miles out the cost around Mulberry Harbour. Thanks!

Hi Adrian, I've never been to that particular spot, but I'd say that 3.5 hp might be a bit small. I would only try it the first time on a nice calm day with small tide to see how you get on. Hope that helps mate. Stay safe.

Hi Andy, Im a long term Kayak angler but would like to give sib fishing a go. I like the look of your set up. I like the sound of the engine as it looks like it will be easy to set up on my own. Im wondering if a slightly smaller sib of maybe 2.8 size would be as good. I will only be going to the same places I would go on the kayak and only going on the calmest of days. Never any further that about 1 mile from shore but mostly 500 yards from the beach. My thought process being the smaller the sib is, the easier to fit in the car and more manageable for launching. I'll mostly be going on my own so don't need room for anyone else. All I need to carry is light plugging gear, or maybe even just my camera gear in a dry bag. Any thoughts/advice greatly appreciated.

Hi, yeah I'd say that the 2.8 would be ideal for just you on your own. The weight and size when rolled up of the 2.8 compared to the 3.2 is not very much... so not a huge difference betweenthe two. The size of the outboard is quite important and depends on what the sea and tide conditions are like in your chosen area. The 4hp, 5hp and 6hp all have the same block size and basically weight the same. 9.8hp is the next size up and is pretty heavy. Hope that helps! 👍

Hi, it weighs about 25kg. I find it quite manageable to lift and around on my own.

Your sib boat has a max hp label mine says 10hp but I will only have an 8hp hopefully it will plane ..if your boat says 8or 10 hp a 6 won't do it

Hi, the max engine capacity for mine (honwave t32) is 15hp. I am able to get on plane with my 6hp with just me onboard. Hope that helps.

I've just ordered a T32 with Yamaha 6hp. I'm hoping it's going to plane 2 up - although I think perhaps it's marginal. What do you think?

Hi James, it can be done with a 6hp but you need it to be very flat and calm and have the tide with you 😀
