I'm so totally hooked on this channel....I was obsessed with buses when I was a kid.....already kind of a nerd. One night my dad's friend brough a bus over to our house.....he was a stock car driver and opened up the back and put some ramps on to carry the stock car around to races. The bus had a large bank of colored light switches next to the driver. they looked like Christmas lights

First thing you need to do is paint over the School District/School stuff on the sides and rear. And of course register it, so I doesn't have GVT plates. At least where I am. That size bus would be a perfect camper mod size for two-three people. That Cat engine will likely survive 500,000 miles before a rebuild. 100k, it's just barely broke in well. Love to see what you do with it.

Yep, that is why we like buying school buses for their engines. Not many think to do this or are in a hurry and just get a rebuilt but that is still lots of $$'s more.

All I know is in the state of Missouri you have to remove the school name, the SCHOOL BUS at the front of the bus, the stop signs and the swing arm on the front bumper. TURN IT INTO AN RV lololololololol❤❤❤❤❤❤

A friend picked one up not long ago just for the diesel engine to use in a construction type truck. Not sure about other places but here to haul school children the public school buses need to be 13 years old or less. They usually have low miles for diesels seeing most times they only make 2 circle trips a day unless they are used as field trip bus or the football team bus to get to other schools every other Friday night. They are usually not abused either that is why we like using them for parts. I ended up selling my last one to a church that talked me out of it for a nice profit. Only thing I thought we had to remove was the school name but I could be wrong seeing most times we just cut them up. Years ago I did leave the fire department use one to practice/train with cutting it up with the jaws after I removed what I needed, they really appreciated that. We tipped it on the side for them to represent an accident where the bus flipped. Not sure if you realize that the rub rails(the 3 black side lines) are not just for extra crash strength but they represent where the floor actually starts (bottom black line), the middle black line represent the seat bottom and top black line should equal where the top of the seats are. all for extra visual aid just in case there is an emergency.

A buddy of mine is a mechanic who works on school busses and city buses. One thing to watch out for is the “sensitive edge” on the doors. If that sensitive edge is activated that will engage the interlock and not let the bus drive if stopped. Hopefully that bus is old enough that it doesn’t have all the new fancy safety features that the newer buses have.

Nice find on the lathe Jack. I took wood shop in school, my second project was making my Mom a candy bowl on the lathe. She still uses the Cutting Board and Candy Bowl I made her when I was 11yrs old. They are fun. The bus..... I'd say IF you actualy go camping often a conversion would be cool. If not, better to clean up and turn over for profit and us on current projects. Either way, do have fun at it. Keep us in the loop on your lathe Jack. Stay safe and have a fun Summer. We'll be here.

That bus (when technical in good order) would easy make 20K over here in Europe. Very populair to make a camper. But than again after transport and import duties there wouldn't be much profit on 20K (or non 😉) BTW... That's the adventures way how kids should grow up! Thumbs up from Portugal.

The lock is there on the back door so it can be locked when it’s not running. That way if you have valuables you can lock them in. But if the bus is on. The back door has to be unlocked.

Just to the left of the door should be printed the number of students it holds. If your driving it home either you registered it as an RV or you have a class "B" with a "z" endorsement.The cat motors are reliable, but expensive to repair. I have a class A. My first bus was a '56 Mack. Lol

You need to take the red and amber lights, the stop sign and the destination sign off. I would say the name of the school too. Idk the requirements to makenit an rv.

Just as a Side Note, most States have a Law that you Vehicle can not be designated at a school bus, that is have a school name on it, unless it is in fact a school bus. Paint over the school name.
